in any daw. as far as editing it is more streamlined. just get with the program man. pun intended.
I bought Ableton Suite about a year back and nowadays I pretty much use the inbuilt plugins exclusively, they pretty much do everything you need. Group instruments are especially useful, you can make all sorts of instrument / fx chains and recall them at any point.
The biggest pain in the ass was going through my sample collection, rex'ing it and then using 'slice to midi' and saving as presets. Once thats done you have your entire break collection in instantly mangleabe programs though which is blissful.
Also the workflow is better than any other sequencer I have used - no popup windows and everything is straightforward and most importantly, fun.

yeh the new compressor and eq in 7 are big improvements, only thing I'm still not totally convinced by is the reverb, it's possible to get some nice sounds from it but it's not as versatile as I would like.

The reverb really needs an upgrade tbh
however, I have not yet found another plugin that I prefer the sound of.
Other than the Logic native verbs and surprisingly the Reason advanced one
dont think the ableton one is bad at all but they could do so much more with it.
To get a nice sounding Plate verb just put the spin in the bottom left corner of the xy box and switch to high quality

I wouldnt say inferior. It has the best workflow of all Daw, some things you can do with it in seconds will take you 20 minutes in Logic. It also looks great, feels great and is big fun to use. But i always have the feeling although i would love to work within this app 100 percent, cause its so easy and fun, its not the right thing for this kind of music. Its perfect for Techno and House but Drum and Bass and Dubstep its somekind of hard to sculpture out of it. I think none of the great producers in those styles of music work with it. i know many people which dont really like their Cubase and Logics, but you get the Sound youre after although its more hassle( Same with Fruity and Reason). Call me liar but there is a Reason why people use those programs. But perhaps we will see the next producer on Tempa or Metalheadz doing it all in Ableton. Just want to write this cause many newbees should know that;-II

I am not sure what you are on about there. Doesn't Headhunter use Live? The thing is all the big producers in dubstep use fucking Fruity WTF? I think you will see that Live will be more and more common among the elite producers as we move forward.

Really true mate. I got both Logic and Ableton, and I can make whizz through a tune in Ableton within a couple of hours, but with Logic there's so much more check boxes you need to tick first. The inbuilt compressor is not that great, and the EQ lacks compared to Logics one.
Also you can change the skin for Ableton, I always work in "Midnight" proper nice

Until someone makes a DAW that can make coffee, fix a drink, roll a joint and give you a blowjob they are all the same.
Sound goes in sound comes out , there's some techy shit happening in between , everybody wins , hooray!

The only way to make a musical moment last forever is to pass it through a delay with the feedback control set to maximum and let it play on and on to infinity. This is also the best way to burn your speakers and the moment won't stay musical for long ...

I think you got me wrong here. I love Ableton and its workflow. I think its a great Program. I just wondered why theres not one toptune in D and B or Dubstep made in that program. Ableton is out now for a few years and there must be lots of talented producers which checked out this program. But yeah perhaps im proved wrong in the future. Perhaps sometimes its better when things are not so easy like with for instance hardware( just a thought..) Headhunter uses Logic you can crosscheck this in another Thread" headhunters wicked Basslines;-) "
I'd pretty much just say find what suits you and the way you work.
Yeah I think thats the essence. Its part of the process to find the tools you can work with. And yeah all Daws are basically the same. A TR909 a Tr808 an Elektron Machinedrum and an MPC are also basically Drumcomputers, Albino, Massive, 3OSC, a Virus and the ES2 are basically the same, but there are also differences and thats important and they will be part of your sound. So i think its much nicer to say Ok, they are all different lets find the right thing for me than to say they are all the same

I really dont want to upset Ableton users, really, its not about which is the best. In Hip Hop guys loved their MPCs and SPs in Techno Tr909 and 808 thats because they are tools which helped to shape this styles.

I have nothing to add here, just wanted to highlight a bunch of funny shit from the orig. post.
but,
are you comparing your tunes to producers that are also known to have had tunes mastered? are we talking released music?
Full Sail awaits your genius!
for real.

How do you know some of the top tunes aren't done in Ableton? Doesn't really matter anyway there is no reason you couldn't use it to write a big tune. What is your criteria for it anyway? I know DZ has made some pretty big tunes on it.

Seriously? Who fucking cares what genre is being made with what sequencer?
Gah, I get so sick of this insipid topic.
Can you throw a sine wave in something and make it go WHOMP? Can you make drum beats and cut them up? Can you play sounds?
THEN IT FUCKING WORKS!

Quote and rip me apart if you will, but I get the feeling he was originally on about the sound quality of Live, not the actual creative aspect of it. I know everyone loves a chance to crack out a wry smile and say 'it's not what you use to make a sound, it's the creativity of it' and phrases to that effect, and that's very, VERY true. However, I've loved Live and used it as my main DAW for ages but I find the audio engine handles mid and low frequencies pretty muddily, and to get a proper mastered track I need to export all the files and do the mastering on my mates mac with Logic and the same mastering plug-ins I use on Live, it sounds noticably clearer.
Hopefully they'll sort this out for Live 8 though!! And having a vocoder on board will be su-weeeeet =]

Thanks for understanding

exactly. My last post in this thread. But even a light breeze of skeptizim about the Sound quality of live is seems to be taken personal. Installed my Macbook with Logic 8 tonight. Wrote a beat in Exs, played a bass in Es2, Chord also, checked the Tape Delay and Comp, and finally that was it for me. Exactly the Sound i was looking for. Lets see if i can combine it with My Ableton.

I just think each piece of software has their pluses and minuses. Personally, I can deal with sound stuff, and always rewire if need be, in exchange for the spontaneity and fun aspect of Ableton.
But I guess my point was, in the end, use what works for you. It doesn't really matter who else uses what for what, does it?
