Does anyone have a website with alternative drum sounds? I have no possibility of recording from the games I play because I have noting to record with.

@00:27, how the hell did he cut that out? That's amazing.

Obviously so is the rest but this one was especially WTF
that's amazing. it's incredible how producers can pick out one tiny snippet of vocals from a tune and hear the makings of another in it. i think burial talks about that in an interview, doesn't he? something about how garage producers used to build entire tunes around 5 seconds of out-of-context singing

nobody has yet mentioned gating or flitering for a 2step beat.

use a step filter like cubase's tonic an' it'll chop up your hits proper...
don't look at this... oh shit!

you can use pretty much anything really

i used a toothbrush and hit the radiator - got a good sample, added effects and used it in my kit

so yeah just hit loads of different things in your room. Bang your head against a wall and record it

I can't seem to find anything about gating or filtering. Otherwise you should go for some really clever automation. Any tips or manuals for gating or filtering? Any examples in songs?

Sure, sure, but the problem is that I don't have a recorder. So I thought about if anyone has some sample websites with alternative drum sounds?

I think he has the talent as Dr. Dre; he knows exactly what he wants to hear.

This is very true. Don't forget that people used to make electronic music using Atari ST's as their main sequencer. It's all about how bad you want it.

Hehe, this just goes with my mentality......

"anything can work as a sample"

He obviously had to shift them up and down now you know where the samples are from.. Its not so much of manipulating for the tune, its manipulating to cover his arse legally .... Probably why he wants he identity kept secret too..

I mean what he did was pretty creative but think of it logically for a second eh?

all it would take would be the label to show that their copyrighted sound recordings were used. sample based stuff is by it's very nature 'derivative' work, which has to pay dues to the originators. (and i am not in any way putting down his creations, which are way better than the originals, of course) its my understanding that it doesn't matter how much of a sample is used, i might be wrong, but it seems like he could be in trouble if jay-z were to ever put 2 and 2 together. one of my teachers always emphasized the importance of making sure the samples you use were unrecognizable, just to avoid any legal uncertainties. either way, im sure glad his music exists as it is. some of the mystique is gone, but im also floored by the creativity and skill of burial.

Hurtdeer-
The whole thing is such bullshit that I try to pretend it doesn't exist and write tunes without worrying about the samples I use. Anything that isn't just directly ripping off another song shouldn't be considered stealing songwriter's rights

seconded. the best stuff gets written like this

this is what capitalism is doing to us.

before sampling was around, musicians always played off with each other. got together, collaborated, made music.

i think artist's should get pissed definitely when a sample of their work isn't used creatively that doesn't make them "hmm, i never knew my sound could sound the way _sampler___ sampled it." and in effect, the original musician got something to push his sound, thanks to sampler hence progress happens in both parties.

but meh to that crap....

burial makes me feel like it's about to rain/it's late, i should sleep but im awake anyway.

in other words...uh....awesome!

Alright I've been trying to do some real 2-step Burial drum patterns, but I'm not near anything like it. For Logic, using Ultrabeat, what buttons/bars do I need to hit with rimshot/woodblock/snare/whatever and what for bass drum??

Anyone got some real nice emo pads or something going on? I need some new pads, I've been getting bored by the Logic ones. Can I buy a synth to add for my Logic version or can I get some shit downloaded?

Detailed and precise answers appreciated.
