Just finished listening to this on repeat for several hours. My immediate response is that this is the quality I'd expect out of Urban Scrumping, but really it's quite a bit more as well.

There is actual DUB in this step.

Favorite tune on the release is that Gyu remix of Kigelia. Followed Closely by the OG of Darkroom and the Phaeleh rmx. Seriously get on this one folks. If you were waiting to see what the response is from the heads you may miss the boat. Think Long, think wrong, TBH.

Big up the overnight crew! 8)

Neov, Onemandub, 3rd Eye, .spec, Oogun, MayorQuimby, tonkatim420, ChrisH + Projectblix - you've all just been sent the link!

Thanks again to EFA and Surface Tension for the comments about the release. I really think this is a contender for our strongest release, the original productions alone still leave me in a state of shock/production-envy everytime i hear them, and the Gyu remix is just lush!

I'm afraid that's it for the freebies now, but don't forget it's always gonna be available at Digital Tunes, Addictech and Juno. ;)

Anyone else had a listen yet?

Straight onto my radio show and I'm pretty sure it will stay there for quite a while.

All these tunes are top notch, Darkroom (Original) is a wicked tune and great way to start the EP. Gyu's remix of Kigelia is lush too. Can't wait to stick Phaeleh's remix on my studio monitors...

listened to this at work on good headphones, sounding big!!

Your chest to all concerned :D:

Shit - missed this thread earlier, don't suppose you can make a late exception and pass out one more freebie to a pair of appreciative ears?

:o :o :o

Just had a full and well-deserved listen to this EP.

Each and every track is a standout, not one could be considered filler...

Darkroom, is a moody, brooding stepper with some well engineered, atonal elements that perfectly offset the melody. Rounded out by a deep drop and some wonderfully lo-fi sounding glitchiness.

Kigelia is likely my pick of the litter, a super deep, steppy number, with an upbeat vibe, and rolling congas to keep the dance moving. I particularly love the drop, which is a throwback to the early days of breakstep ala Darqwan. Splendid!

The Darkroom remix, is an amazing tune as well. Maintains, the haunting vibe of the original while progressing into more upbeat territory, with delicately arranged percussion and a super clean and beefy sub bass. I suspect this would work well in the dance also.

The Kigelia remix, is totally NOT what I have come to expect from Gyu, but a nice surprise to be sure. :)
This tune also skillfully balances the vibe of the original but puts a totally different twist on it, with a more melancholy bassline, more straight up beats, and a more stripped-back approach to the melody.

All in all, another quality release form the US camp and an essential B.O.S (bag on sight) for anyone interested in this sound.

Respect 8)

SCLIST - Darkroom

Post by the_pearl » Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:13 pm

The mysterious Bodymusik Clan from East London has put this in pt. 1 of their year-end lists (even though it came out a few days ago).

Go here:

Much respect to Pete SCLIST. Look for a mix soon out from Hang-Up DJs. Something from Darkroom EP will be on there for sure.

wow :o

my favourites would have to be kigelia which is simply amazing - absolutely love those drums keeping the track bubbling away - and phaeleh brings his usual deep loveliness with his remix of darkroom
