I think some danish artists has created a very unique style within ambient, minimal electronica. It has a special vibe which can be recognized through listening to Lulu Rouge, Trentemøller, Tillegreen, Mike Sheridan, Mikael Simpsons etc.
A lot of my friends are very fashion minded and they call some of this music "dubby" and "dubstep". Actually I think that only a couple of them has heard about Benga, Mala, Skream, Burial, etc. So I think this kind of music will evolve a bit into some danceable music that still has a very Scandinavian flavor to it.

The 'glitch hop' movement will probably be next if you use it as an umbrella term to mean hip hop with electronic influences and not just glitchy hip hop as some do. I like to use it to mean Glitch Hop, Lazerbass, Aquacrunk, Psyphy, Whomp, and Skweee all rolled into one style.
As far as Im concerned, multiple BPM sets based in elctronic influenced hip hop format is whats next, and Ive been waiting for years for it to happen.
all i am saying is i am sick of the top 40 remix bullshit,
i like "skwee" , and i like the creative stuff, the materialistic shit is for the birds...

Whats next? dunno. I like about 10 different genres of music so when I get bored of the music that is being made I will just go with my other genres.
Its alright turning to pants but that is always going to happen when more people get into it.

but i doubt thats going to happen soon 2bh, dubstep reflects real talent to me, not just some poorly made chopped up beat some 13yr old made on a cracked fl studio. if you put a synthesiser infront of a grime producer id doubt theyd know what to do with it since its just the notes of preset patches drew over the kicks. i was a listener of grime instrumental until around 2006 when what talent there was left dissapeared, moved on to dubtep/electronica so it became over-run by school kids who thought they could mc because it made them look good. to me grime went from a new innovative music style to "suck your mom", and that ain't music.
dubstep reflects mastery of proffesional music production techniques so to me it's got a long life ahead of it, as skream basically explained in his interview that dubstep is about the music not image.
Good post. This is like what I was thinking but was just too lazy to type it all out.
Dubstep is like a cool thing to be into at the moment and they are wondering what the next cool thing will be I recon.

Oh no, wasn't about that at all.
I started this from the viewpoint of... well... like I said, Dubstep was "there" and oozing itself together for quite awhile before it got noticed... was just wondering if there's some new genre right now that nobody's noticing--it'd be fun to start / champion a new sound, like Skream Benga did, from its infancy, rather than endlessly playing catchup / chasing the lattest production fad every 5 years...
