Pretty faulty logic there. Could you go into a hobby shop and grab the sit off the shelves, and run out the door, "Don't trip its just a hobby! If I ever make money off of this shit, I'll pay you back!"
yeah man, i've been waiting 10 years to make money out of tennis so i can pay for that racquet!
personally - Logic 8, paid for, it's £118 with a student discount. well worth it.

Bought Ableton as soon as 7 came out. I'll get the upgrade to 8, too... given the amount I've used it, it's probably the cheapest bit of software I've ever bought.

ha ha ha pretty funny image in my head right now.
FTW.
I got rid of all my cracks several years ago, only use what I pay for (plus a few freeware bits)... and never looked back. It means that I can't have everything I want when I want it, and instead either need to save up for it..or just go without. Either way, it has only improved my abilities with the software I do own.

BUY YOUR SOFTWARE. If you buy the shit, you'll force yourself to sit down and learn all the nuances of it. if you steal it, chances are you're not going to dig deep into your DAW and learn new things.
Buying your software implies making a commitment to music. I bought renoise because i knew, that if i just stole it, i'd never learn it. When i bought it, i sat down in front of it and said "okay, shit, what have i gotten myself into. I've gotta learn this now".
huge difference.

I buy my software because I make a little of money from it
not much, but enough to justify the expense

as for topic
I have bought both Logic and Ableton
under the same principles of buying my OS
... being eligible for support could be a life saver one day
...however, a lot of great music would'nt exist without Cracked software

For real. I bought logic pro 7 back when it was a $1000 f@#*ng dollars. CPU hungry unstable whore of a program. It made me hate apple. Don't try using rewire and more then four effects or recording to an outboard firewire drive... CRASH! The older Logic versions worked pretty well. Those $!#@'s at apple didn't even know how to get it all working and I bought the computer from them too! All that said... I DID eventually get it all up and running in a way that works for me and am still using it. It taught me how to think around the problems or limitations in the software and come up with ways to accomplish what I wanted. The other one I bought was Reason 4 and that made me end up buying recycle cause Reason has no way to chop samples and recycle makes a tidy .rex. Reason was waaaay worthwhile for me. I like it even if it sounds kind of crappy out the box w/ presets (so they say) it's easy to layer some sh@t up and make it sound crispy and fat! Lot's of good tools. The THOR, the combinator, The scream, the ARP and the Redrum... Good stuff.
I would love a crack of logic 8 cause i figure apple owes me big time for all the pain and suffering of learning the most ILL-Logical DAW ever and putting up with the most incompetent staff of any company I have ever delt with. Even the lady at McDonalds gets all three of my creamers into my coffee without complaint! In fact Im going to go drive a van through the window of the apple store and get me a new quad core duo tower next time Logic crashes on me in the middle of an epic session...
okay.. venting is nice sometimes. And yah... I say pay for your software even if you will probably never make a penny off it. Because some people worked their ass's off so you could have the ability to do all of this amazing stuff on your home computer. I started making beats in the days of the SP12 and the Juno. FL studio and Reason and all of these soft synths and DAW's are so amazing I would never need half the features. Even FL studio offers a very powerful production package. Shit I bet burial uses a commadore 64 to make his shit. I say buy what you can afford and learn how to make it do what you want. If you use cracked software thats cool, I really don't care, but if you use it and enjoy it and it works for you... Why not come up with the couple hundred dollars or whatever to keep the programmers who gave it to you in biz??? Plus having the license gets you access to neat crap on the company webshite. I want to see what they come up with next so keep them working.

Im using cubase sx3 pirated. But saving up for cubase 5 so i can finally get rid of the problems with cubase i have now. But no complaints, that comes with it.
For vsti's, i use a lot of freeware and also some pirated vsti's. Mainly because i'm looking for the best plugins for my musical use when i decide to buy.
Shame on me..
