Hi all! This is my first post ever...I was googling around and I came across this thread and I had to post in it. It's funny that I came across this now cause lately I've made these two mixes....one of them is 140 BPM dubstep mashed with political Hip Hop songs...the other is (mostly) dubstep and whatever Bassnectar's 85 BPM dub crazyness is. ha. I'll also post them in the appropriate section but I thought I'd post them here too cause this thread is so relevant. Check the Soundcloud pages for the track lists.
FIrst one - "Tha Dirty Rebel Dub" (dubstep mashed with hip hop)
Soundcloud
Second one - "The Zombies Want DiCaprio" (contains lots of odd-tempo dubstep mixed with hip hop)
Soundcloud

Me and my homies so drop that
We rollin on 20's with the top back
So much money you can't stop that
srsly check out Dirty south hip hop. They were rockin that bounce a long time ago. That's the stuff your going to have to manipulate the least (imo) to have it fit into 140 bpm sets

Personally, I tend to draw a distinction between hip hop and dance based on their respective tempos. There's plenty of rap/contemporary RnB/slow jams at 130-140 bpm, but I don't really see that stuff as hip hop. To me, hip hop can only really be hip hop between 80-100bpm, because of the unique swing and swagger inherited from the old soul tracks that the original hip hop sampled. Maybe it's just a language thing.

I just found out about TC Izlam's Hipstep Massive, they're doing all kinds of fresh stuff at 140 with a ragga/hip hop vibe. Not exactly hip hop but explicitly related.
