worst of all jumping on every fucking thread when a newcomer who has only just heard of dubstep wants some pointers and showing them the tune you are currently spamming when they might never have even heard of mala or whoever else

i'm getting sick of it, if the tune's good people will discuss it - shameless self promotion shouldn't be allowed and is against the rules

isn't it?

EDIT: O yeah of course if done tastefully self promotion is a vital part of this forum, i am talking about when people TAKE THE PISS
I totally agree

This is probably the best example where the label owners (one in particular) bumped it 10 times just on the last page.

I was incredulously looking through this thread just last night... it's the nature of the internet I suppose.

no-one's saying that

its great to suggest someone more obscure, as long as they are as good - but its a bit biased if it's YOU that's that person. leave it to someone else to do this - if a person's music's so great surely someone will mention it!

oh and this goes out to darcus who decided the comments section on my soundcloud was a billboard for him to post his website on. It's not and neither is every part of this forum. Now get to work on some decent content for your website rather than spamming the whole internet and pissing off potential users

and who gets to say what is good and what is bad? and what if the stuff is good yet no one wants to mention it? where do you draw the line?

do you not agree that discouraging producers to post & bump there own threads, may make some quality material slip through the net, maybe not a big factor here, but just a thought?

:?

The point is when people shamelessly offer up their own tracks as "recommendations", which happens very often and usually from the same people. There's nothing wrong with flagging up something obscure that you think is good, and no-one is saying that there is.

fair enough i agree with you, but its pretty obvious that in the example that i was using if someone has just come in as a total newcomer and wants to know who's good that there are some seminal artists who should get a mention before some kid with a myspace who is still getting his shit together (for example).

i saw one such thread where no-one mentioned digital mystikz in a thread about which dubstep to check out - seen as some people may have come in as a result of chase and status, rusko or skream it isn;t that unthinkable that they might not have heard of mala (for example)

really what it boils down to is- by all means promote your work but dont shove it in people's faces - dont be rude, mention it where APPROPRIATE

it's all in the rules of the forum anyway which seem pretty reasonable

it just seems that quite a few folks are ignoring the rules

Agreed, Rogue!

Anyways, surely that's the whole point of a forum - to promote music in a communal place where people can say, "hey, check this new tunes out" or "this is what we're doing now, have a listen - cast an opinion". Of course, you find a few genuinely cack tracks along the way - but that's what you get when being part of a community, which is one thing the dubstep scene does exceptionally well - act as a community.

Even if a forums purpose was to serve as a place to solely talk about music, the fact that names are dropped is still publicity whether you like it or not.

I've found a lot of music I didn't know before from artists both big and small, and if it weren't for these "shameless self promoters" there would be no new music... who is going to do it for them??

If you only want to hear what's 'in' or what the big producers are churning out next (as is sometimes the case), then stick to last.fm or amazon.com...

ooops, gotta go - I can hear Skreams La Roux remix on Radio 1!

this is so fucking dumb.

reptilian, I think it's fair that everyone gets a chance to promote their wares, big or small, "good" or "bad".

oversaturation is the problem at hand, I'd say. there's an unwritten rule regarding free, grass-roots marketing == don't be a douchebag.

you're fucking dumb

it's hijacking a thread if someone says I'm new to dubstep who should I check out and someone goes

"let me see...

who's good?

I know!

me!!!"

it's also quite sad

guess it was just a point of discussion

if you don't like it "skim through" - follow your own advice and read something else

dude, WHO FUCKING CARES??

all you have to do is DON'T CLICK THEIR LINK.

some people are just trying to get their shit out there, if it sucks, it sucks, you dont have to bother doing anything except skimming past it.

who the fuck wants people coming around asking whats good anyways??

to me dubstep is about finding shit yourself, if someone asks for recomendations, they should be linked the web stores, barefiles and get darker along with the mixes forum.
