From my knowledge Sub is below 60Hz and Mid 80-500?
Last time I checked, up untill about 90-100 - its still sub bass ...

The question what I often ask myself is why so many people put SO much time into sub bass when its not even got 200hz worth of range! And theres like another 19.9khz to cover (if you're cutting at 20khz)
Because good sub is well important in dubstep!
Yeah standard! But I always do my sub last because a tunes no good if its just some shitty half step beat with a subline - I mean even loefah has more sounds than that and hes one of the most minimal producers (and one of the best)

Because its logarithmic.

Still at least 3 octaves. An octave is a doubling in frequency. Hence (for simplicity, 25Hz is a bit low...) 25Hz>50Hz = 1 oct, 100Hz = 2 octaves, 200Hz = 3 octaves.

At HF 10Khz > 20Khz is only one octave, but 10000Hz.....

:D

luckily it works the other way as well so dubstep's "exporting" it's sound and space management as well. check out d-bridge's new stuff, instra:mental and lynx, to mention a few. deep minimalistic dnb with a lot of sub. after 3 years of listening to dubstep mostly I am now happy to find out there is a lot of dubstep influence in other genres. so it's all good, there is a room and obviously a demand for mid range dubstep as well as there is (finally) room and demand for deep dnb. if the balance of things is good I am happy. you can still find a lot of deep, minimalistic or garagey dubstep so it's not like skream making mid range dubstep is doing the Pendulum thing. they fucked it up really but it seems like the clowny dnb era is coming to an end at last :D but I see no way of the same thing happing to dubstep and if it does it will get deeper again. all about the cycles imho :)

I have an idea. Lets eliminate an entire frequency range in an entire genre of music. Lets just all get our parametric EQs out right now and re render all the tunes we play with anything between 200 - 1.5k hz taken down to like - 64db.

Who gives a fuck if its mid range cack, thats the point, so the bassline has an audible melody. its still got a sub underneath which on a big system will sound just as loud as other subs, even with "midrange cack" on top of it.

I play out all my sets with a brick-wall band-reject filter on 200-2K.
