yeah

In SX3 definitely, prob all others.

Go to file, Save to New Folder, you can either export all the wavs, or just the ones you use (minimise, or something). Save it to a new folder, although i think it forces you to do it to an empty folder.

it wont do sampler files tho, eg battery/kontakt/short-circuit or whatever - have to do that manually AFAIR. All vsts should retain their settings tho, although i tend to save an FXP of each one in the project folder anyway.

Yeah, tis a shame, but not unreasonable - cubase would have to 'ask' each plugin to tell it which samples its using and find them, then tell the plugin where to find the new one... bit much really.

Most samplers allow you to save the entire bank (often called a multi) as one file, with or without samples - shoudl hopefully be relatviely painless.

Oh and BTW, if youre using FTP, FLAC can really save you a huge amount of space/file size - if you both have flac you can encode, then decode each way, with no loss in quality.

Sorry man;

Groups/Sends are typically used when you want a mix of the original and the effect (reverbs, delays) and inserts are generally used when you want to completely affect the result (compressors/eqs etc).

Nothings set in stone, my mate insists on using reverbs as inserts, and changes using the wet/dry parameter. Similarly, theres a style of compression called new york compression where the compressor is used on a send, typically hammered, and mixed in with the original.

The specifics of setting up groups as sends is detailed in maccs tutorials.
yea that and you can use the pre-fader send option crank the gain to negative and effectively have a clone that you can use like an insert then minus using additional cpu by opening multiple instances of a vst if you decide later you can use it as a send with some simple fader wiggling
it's also handy for frequency splitting sounds or creating a multiout for a default single out instrument and getting real anal with individual effects and such

by way of explanation: atm when i work on a collab proj i create stems of each individual channel before any studio transfer. normal practice right? but obv the disadvantage of this is that you sacrifice your ability to edit sounds created in say VSTi which were running real time, pre-bounce

what i want to know is... assuming of course that you are working 100% ITB is there a way to instruct cubase to deposite all of the constitents of your track (all source sounds, VSTi settings, sampler drum kits, woteva) into a single folder or your specification?

main benefit would be if you were working with someone with an identical setup you could simply perform the project dump described above, RAR the resulting folder, and ftp it to your creative partner who would unRAR, open with cubase, and instantly access the exact same proj that you were looking at on your machine, with all the same live editability. this process would be mirrored when the track is returned to you.

does this function exist? perhaps in a post-SX version of cubase? or is this blatent wishful thinking
I was wondering this as well.. seeing as half my samples are located on my HD and it's a pain having to hook it up all the time.

I have latency issues with my cubase sx3, I am using a M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface and a M-Audio Axiom 25.

I've read up a bit on the subject and cant get this figured out, I have tried using the ASIO4ALL(think thats what its called) driver and that did not fix the problem. I know it is a sound card issue because I don't have this problem if I run my output as the laptop speakers. I just cant seem to get the sample latency low enough.

Would love it if one of you cubase junkies could offer up some advice! :)

go into your fast track pro driver/asio controls and adjust the buffer size to decrease the latency and make sure that drivcer is the one selected in your devices

On the latency tip. I'm using a Tascam USB soundcard which uses it's own driver. When I select the Asio4All it wont output sound. So I'm stuck using the Tascam driver? I get some occasional crashing and clickies and I know it's the soundcard. Sup with that? :|

a question ;

this thread on cubase.net suggest that timestretching has got worse since sx3  wtf? I use timestretching all the time.

can anyone confirm ?

http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=119068

if so, i believe you can run older versions with a 5 dongle (eg 4, sx3) is this correct?

Cant sign up to cubase.net without a dongle no.

this is not the news i was hoping for... :?

Yes I have heard this too but not noticed the difference. I'm not compared stretched sound to other cubase versions also so can't confirm. But notice, that none of the "big names" and mods are not took the floor :?: :?

But yes you can run SX3 and C4 with C5 dongle.

A tad off-topic, but still amusing anyway...

I recently had a Cubase 5 dongle problem, and even though the light was on, the dongle had stopped working entirely, though at the time I wasn't entirely sure what was wrong with it...

So I went onto the forums explaining my problem, and I casually mentioned I had upgraded from the crappy cracked version of SX 3 that floats around... INSTANTLY I had people telling me the cracked version had caused the dongle to break, and I'd need to re-format my XP installation, and other flamery which was sorta like "It's your own stupid fault, haXXors are baaaaaaad etc..." until someone asked me to try the dongle in another computer and then it was clear the dongle had broken anyway ;)

Aaaaaaaanyway, has anyone checked out the Cubase iC Application for iPhones and iPod Touches? You can control all the basic functions of Cubase from your iPod using your wireless network which is pretty funky...

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I LOVE Groove Agent One... I used to have to rewire Reason 4 to Cubase to play my drum parts on my songs which was a fucking hassle, cause I personally dislike the way the effects sound on Reason, so being able to drag and drop samples into GAO, route each type of sound (bass drum, snare, cymbals etc...) to seperate outputs and effect them in groups is AWESOME.

As well as this REVerence is such a good reverb as well... So varied, and it just makes me smile every time I use it... :D

took pulling teeth and about 3 months for me to get my serial number from them since i lost the stupid indepent card it was on in the packaging
even after giving the my dongle serial and all was a straight hassle of bugging the shit out of them to get it

great products but shit support and main forums and a generally douchey userbase on their main forum as well
you're better off hitting gear slutz or kvr bout questions

Well, if you have GAO loaded up, you should just press F11 and bring up the VSTi Window... From there, you should be able to see on the left hand side by the MIDI Note In light a little grey object, if you click that you can turn on/off multiple outputs :) And after that, you simply go into GAO, select the sample you want to change the output of and then turn the dial in the "Play" tab that says "Output" on (it's the far right one on the left side of the VSTi :) You should be able to see the other outputs when you open up the Groove Agent ONE in the VST Instruments folder... Hope that helps!
