i have a few thoughts on this. for the first couple of listens, i thought his bonkers was a decent track. low replay value, but whatever. however i do think that repeatedly remixing high profile commercial tracks is a cheap way of drawing hype to himself.

is he singlehandedly ruining dubstep? unlikely. however, Rub a Dub Dub posted a link to this facebook group, and it is indeed a very worrying sight.

I have noticed we have all started to get our teeth into a bit of Dubstep...

With this genre now playing around with more commercial tracks with dubstep remixes now of Deadmau5, Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris, La Roux, Don Diablo, Lazee, Skepta...ect

Think Caspa, Rusko, Skream, Nero, Zinc....

Its now time to give people what they keep asking for.....DUBSTEP!

A brand new event will be launching in Leeds...the first of its kind.....A WEEKLY DUBSTEP NIGHT!!

Before we go ahead with this we want to make sure that there are enough of you interested....

now, not to be a dick, but can any of you really see this happening and not feel a bit irritated?
logistically, i don't think there are currently enough radio-friendly dubstep tracks to run a night based solely on them, so at this point im not sure how this would even work.
however, mainstream kids of course have no problem hearing the same tune thousands of times over.
the mainstream starting to 'like dubstep', by which i mean 'like a heavily commercialised bastardised form of dubstep', will create demand for more doorlys, especially if students nights for it like this start to appear.

people will say 'oh, but theyll be exposed to dubstep through the commercial stuff and then start getting into the proper underground stuff.' perhaps some will, but certainly not many. can you visualise heavily made-up topshop girls, alcopops in hand, in high heels, brocking out to coki or nodding appreciatively to mala? aint gonna fucking happen. and no one should want it to. theres never gonna be a day when average mainstream music is actually good in the eyes of someone who takes their beats seriously.

:?

I do think the growing popularity of big DJ's like Skream and Benga could help to remedy this though.

This made me piss myself laughing, it's the truth.
But i lately don't give a shit anymore. The craze will pass, happened with bassline/niche, bet they felt the same but it's not got the same hype anymore.

Its not my thing but that one youtube video beats my tune on youtube views by about 29,000 so I can't hate .

You can't say its shit if that many people have listened it / gave positive feedback.. if you don't like - don't buy it.

There being exposed to like, the shite side of dubstep and not the actual good shit.
Hasn't it occurred to you that every underground genre needs it's pop/crossover/sell-out (delete as applicable) artists? That maybe they serve as a gateway to the deeper/proper stuff? Cos fuck knows my love affair with hip hop might never have started without Coolio lol
And can any of the negative heads actually address this??
Can you compare this to Coolio? This guy doesn't have any integrity whatsoever.

I can't hate the guy though - I could't make a career out of jumping on a bandwagon and making simplistic edits on chart hits as I would feel much to sleazy... if you can do it and live with yourself then fair enough! :P

Who cares how you get into dubstep. You say Doorly is ruining dubstep just because he makes tunes you dont like, some people probaly dont like Mala or Joker but you dont hear them talking shit. It cant hurt for more people to get into dubstep the ones true to the tunes will stay and the others will go when the next new trend comes along. Dubstep can be whatever you want it to be and I like seeing some of it cross over into pop and mainstream. Just cuz Doorly is doing his thing its not gonna change what Ramadanman or Scuba are doing

There's someone out there who's not making dubstep that everybody likes?

This is the end of the fucking world, people.

Most his stuff sounds bananas in a club. You can hate all you want, but soon as your out with a brew in your hand, and bonkers rmx or something drops, I defy you to stand still/bitch/walk out the room.

is it?
as long as the DJ's still push the sound, yes it is.

people need to stop bitching about Caspa and Rusko, about "commercial" dubstep, about Chase and Status and Snoop Dogg, etcetera.

nobody is forcing you to play that stuff, but if someone hears it on youtube and decides to go to a dubstep-party because of it, YES, that's a good thing.
BINGO!!!

If they're enjoying what they're making and people are buying it - surely they're doing what 90% of people making music want to do - making a living out of it - I personally see no harm in people doing what they enjoy ...

Thats perfectly sane logic in my mind...
