COULDNT agree more....

BUT... never ever listen to gritstep however dejected you may have been from your parents at an early age, focus your anger into wanking/rugby/..women and once that anger is gone= smile and listen to pangea.

youtube is your friend as well. just search dubstep on there, and you'll be there for hours.

ez mate, the interent is your best resource really. Sets, free track d/l's (LEGAL!!) paid for mp3's..

I must say dsf is a very good resource despite shabbyness from time to time

dont buy it atm save your money compare and buy better record when it comes out. if tune you want is a banger, every one on your block will be playing it

i made the mistake of buying every tune i halfed liked when i started djing, now ive got a pile of records i never use, and that money that i could have used to buy new records with that i will acctually play

haha i know what you mean. yes same thing happened to me.

the most unwanted shitty records i bought thinking like "my mate will have it before i will! this shouldnt happen, i'll have it first". but right now i'm pretty ok.

i just dont buy a record which came out just right now. wait at least a week. two is even better. there are 3 reasonable points why it helps.

1. you wont buy it becuse everyone else around are buying it (which is a very stupid reason to buy ANYthing)
2. it want be that kool a week after if its Kool and not really that Cool
3. long terms (well at least some terms) show what exactly lasts in time. if you will like the same record a little amount of time after - that means you wont get tired of it for years - and for me this is a special quality of what a vinyl release should have

and this is a good thing how to avoid your vinyl consumer lust - at least it helped me

one of the best things about music is discovering it imo

its a never ending search for that perfect tune that just gets you that feeling, like your existence is somehow enhanced for having heard it, na sain?

then i end up with a notepad list of beats that i love, and need to buy etc.

also dubstep is rad n all but there is plenty of amazing music out there to be heard. dont get stuck in a genre heh.. your music collection will be far more interesting (and expensive) and have some kind of personality to it

ALSO! dont record shop online after about midnight or 1am.... things can sound muuuuuch better than they are when youre tired, lol. ive ended up with a few records wondering "why did i buy that?"

^ Too true, too true!

I find I do a lot of my good listening / buying at work while im sort of concentrated on working as well ... the tracks that grab my attention away from work are the true stand outs ... needless to say its also important not to just buy bangers but to get something for all moods

I have been buying vinyl for over ten years, and more recently with serato, digital. I feel lucky that I always bought what I was feeling and I have a very strong collection because of it. Except for a few tunes, most everything I will be keeping till I'm dead. I don't like being pigeonedholed as a dj, and have a huge variety of sounds to prove it, from jungle, dubstep, hip hop, reggae, techno, house, dub, trip hop, ambient, rock, 80's pop, soul, jazz, whatever.... I love it all and continue to buy all different genres all the time.

I recommend when you are buying to always buy at least 2 different genres if not more, and not the SAME 2 genres every time, but switch it up, so eventually in 10 years, you will have a decent sized collection of all kinds of stuff.

I really hate it when I talk to a dj and he says something like," yea, I only play evil dark jungle. As hard as it gets." Really? Get some variety man.

I think the way of the future for djs is varsatility, we are starting to see it already from people like Starkey and Dip-lo, who throw down so many different styles when they play out, they can adapt to any situation. It's also great if you are a producer to have variety in your tastes, because the ideas will be drawn from a 1000 different sources.
