There are double standards here... When someone make tunes like Caspa, Rusko, Benga, Skream or whatevers (and every second or first in the dub section sounds like that...)... then it's like Woaaaaaah, yeaaaaaah, dirrrrtyyyy, baaaaad, gwaaaaaanann, oh my gooood.
When someone make tunes like Burial, then it's like "man you rip burial..." I can't understand that...
Yes, this sounds like Burial... probably the most similar artist I've heard... And I don't encourage that...
On the other hand his Nagual Sound Experiment is a very nice project in my humble opinion...

Yeah, his tunes are extremely similar to Burial's, but they're still good, so I can't complain too much.

who remembers all the loefah, toasty ripoffs around 2006?
burial stands alone out there, because he managed to achieve a collage of about 4 genres into one sound. that can't be replicated, but definitely imitated poorly. its important to note that there's nothing wrong with being influenced by burial, as thats natural...but using the same pads and even the same style of pitched vocals is ....

agreed - but a style of vocal pitching that is a sole characteristic of only burial? couldnt agree less, he got those ideas from the garage influence, what was ridiculous is that dude literally copying and pasting his drums.
To me, unless some dude has got soundforge and is trying to utilize/imitate ALL the production methods he has found out about burial via the internet - then its not copying him.
burial has, in the words of kode 9, carved out a little genre of his own - to me its garage if you have to call it something. Dark, moody and emotional garage

and im guessing he would be happy that he has influenced a new load of producers - if burial makes music like that, then he is gonna almost certaintly gonna enjoy the likes of whom that are also doing it well i.e. clubroot, synkro etc. etc.

no, he doesn't.
In terms of the experimentation with layered textures and beats, he does to my ears.
Red Snapper spring to mind straight away.
Just my opinion.
Don't mind Ory, he's entirely clueless.
Back on topic, that Clubroot stuff is a MASSIVE Burial ripoff.
who the fuck are you

i read the whole thread before visiting slew's myspace, and tbh i dont think its that big a rip off, and i really quite like some of the tunes. if he actually did sample burial's drums obviously that's not cool, but still, good tunes. i think the hardness and raveyness of them (those that i listened to properly anyway) sets him apart far enough.

The burial comparisons for the artist in question on LoDubs create a mixture of feelings. On one hand, it gets people listening, and gives them an introductory context, from which the astute listener has from what we've witnessed came to realize that the voice of Clubroot is absolutely singular, and rarely bares any direct resemblance to Burial, other than its emotional context.
I feel sad for those who cannot recognize this. It is much how the subtlety of so much of the world is lost to so many, and thus will remain hidden in its full form from them forever, just under the surface.
Why they feel they can make such sweeping indictments of things they have at best a fingernail-grasp of is beyond me completely.

I think that's just a lack of sense for ambient, more emotional music. To an average teenage dumbstep (tm

) wobbler, anything mellower and ambiental is probably automaticly compared to burial because he is the most famous dubstep producer doing more ambient stuff, and everybody knows of him...
You know... burial didn't invented rimshots, hoovers, pads...
On the other hand he (burial) did invented that dirty lo-fi crackly ambient dubstep and I don't see anything wrong people following his idea of sound which is very interesant and give more to the deepness of sound... as long as ones keep pushing that sound foward and eventualy end up with their own recognizeable style.
