Something a bit different!

The high pitched synth which comes in at about 0:14-0:15. It's a sound used by Daft Punk as well.

Anyone have any ideas what it's called or, even better, how to recreate it? :D

Thanks!

BombsandBottles wrote:Besides getting the right waveform which sounds somewhere between a saw and a square, there is a very short pitch decay happening to make that laser effect, and then you have the pluckyness from the filter so

- Mod Envelope to Osc Pitch (Fast Decay)
- Low Pass Filter Envelope

Then it's just BandPass wobble with medium resonance, slight delay and reverb.

Ok so here's what I've come up with. I know it's not exactly the same but I'm pretty sure I have the overall deal. The 2 sounds I used for the synth in question could be better gelled together but I didn't have the energy. Anyways, let me know if you think it's close enough.

Ok so what it sounds like to me is that it's a piano sample layered with one of those old school rave ambient chord sounds. To Make the sound I just used the "color" wavetable in massive. I put the wavetable position to about 1:00. I turned it to monophonic and turned up the portamento a bit. The only effect I gave it was reverb set to 100% wet with a small room size.

For the piano part, I used one of the grand piano samplers in reason, set the decay and release all the way up, played a chord that sounded good, and resampled. Now the trick is to only capture the sustain of the piano, because in the song it sounds like there's no attack to it. Then I sidechained both to the kick (gives a really cool feel to it and it's done really heavily in the track).

One thing that you could do to get the 2 sounds together is to add some light chorus to both sounds with a low frequency so it's slow and not too drastic, but still noticeable.

How does one create uplifting synths such as those used by Xilent on this track?? :W:

if you are meaning the chords,

detuned saw waves, reverb, delay

possibly with a filter envelope set so they open up over time.

hope that helps :)

I'm trying to get a sound like the one thats at around .56. You hear the first bass sound at the drop and then theres like a vibratoey high pitched sound that he uses and is playing some notes with it. How would I achieve such a sound? I use Massive
Can anyone help me out on this?

Alright. This is a hell of a tune and I wanted to know what I can do in Massive to create this crazy synth in this song. It starts at about 0:36 and also, what instrument is played at 0:38? so funky  thank you. :4:

This basically ^ But some other things to add would be some multiband distortion (only a bit, just some added crunch, overdrive preferably), and adding 2-3 different layers will help all with different settings on there delay, detune, and reverb and then one REALLY important thing, is that you add a lot of notes for more unison and harmony, this will make the sound very fat, and then route them all to one bus I and I would stereo widen it and maybe sound goodizer/sausage fattener.

Do anyone know how to make the "vibrating" sound at 1:23 (at the drop)?

^^^ for sure, but always be careful with the Sausage Fattener, it can go from nice to nasty in one twitch of the mouse!

Add whitenoise for some "airyness". Without the noise, it will sound.. duller

I use massive as my go to synth myself. This might not be specific enough, and that used to frustrate me when I asked questions. But eventually you begin to appreciate the time you put in to practice vs someone holding your hand. I bet my life on it. You'll also begin to appreciate how important it is to discover a new sound and implement it into your style. That all comes with time. And so this is why my replies are more general than specific.

@ohmicid: I THINK it's an FM sound. Also layered with a higher octave version/HP layer of the sound, or of course another higher operator. I'm no expert in FM, just something I offer from my experience. I'll defer to anyone more involved in FM synthesis. There is definitely a metallic element/flavor to the sound, which comes from higher pitches/reverb/delay and eq to accentuate which parts.

@The first datsik tune sounds like an envelope on the cutoff of a filter. Probably an envelope with a slower attack and no release/sustain. It's got verb and delay. Play above C4 and use square waves. :)
