ok i mave to ask do people really like this stuff, it's basically dirty south hip hop minus the vocals
i love the shit, but the dirty south stuff had it's heyday in the US some time back made pop with shit like lil jon
it kind of reminds me of music journalists trying to call flying lotus aquacrunk
for example shit i sampled like mad that basically would be trap now minus lyrics
it's basically southern US rap minus the lyrics
not a bad thing, but pretty basic production wise

Trap actually is still basically southern rap style now though.
A lot of this is just either influenced by it or is people just going for the instrumental part of it with their tunes.

A lot of this stuff, admittedly, does suck. There's a small handful of tracks and such here that do anything for me or show any innovation maybe aside from TNGHT, a project that I genuinely feel is a bit of a game changer. The label "trap" has already become tenuous imo.

Nah, I wouldn't call araab trap. I even have trouble categorising him in the realm of hip hop anymore given the sounds on his last album (which SUCKED imo). I think he's created his own little niche which has it's moments

haha i loved electronic dream it showed what i self produced lp pure mpc sounds like
but i have a soft spot for mpc heads i want to get a 5000 just cause i used to love jamming on em back when even with limited samples making tunes at old job
is it so far off to think if he added some 808 kicks and bass to his tunes it would be considered trap though
trap just seems like such a bastardization of the resurgence of footwork and instrumental southern hip hop
i love it as a bass fan, but hate the laziness as a producer

That's fair play, I did used to watch Araab's demo vids on youtube and thought they were sick, he is undeniably talented but spitting drums all over trance tunes did little for me.
I totally agree with the laziness angle, that's where I think the lack of innovation is coming from. Again, I mention TNGHT because I feel Hud Mo has honed his craft to a point where he can do big things and his imagination seems to show no creative end. He has showed enough styles across his EPs and even his Butter album had tracks that differed one to another.

hah i love the cross genre shit i have yet to hear a proper trap crossover in spite of my buds making it like misk etc
i prolly hype this tune too much but it shows how being simple and cross blending genres works if you innovate
fucking who would have thought of jungle footwork, and listening to this it seems so obvious
