Wen might have a new release coming out, Ghost is some dnb track though. Whatever happened to that track? A couple of months ago it sounded more grime-y and it was a collab with Epoch, but since then it became a solo track and changed to a dnb tempo.

ive always heard it as a dnb tune.
Om Unit has been playing it for a while now.

Certified Connections turned up today (got the CD).

Faves so far are the DLVRY, Luke Benjamin (badman), Murlo, Balistiq/Riko/Sully and Etch tunes. Whole album bangs tho, another great compilation.

Out to Keysound.

Can i just say a few words about this kinda thing, so people know the ins and outs. it's not entirely win-win.

the bigger the groove on a wax the better the bass notes. conversely the more you squash it together, the lighter it sounds. (check old 7 tracks a side soul records for example). low frequency sounds literally need the needle to wiggle back and forth in the groove to generate the longer wavelength, as far as i understand these things.

the upshot is you can't squash more than about 22-25 mins on a side of wax without losing bass notes/club impact. so 1 CD = 74 mins of music, but 2x sides of wax = 44-50 mins max; normally it's less.

the next option is to have 2x12"s. then you can really have fully loud & deep cuts on wax. 2 tracks a side = 8 tracks.

in theory we could have done a 3x12" for certified connections, but the 2x12" is £13 already, I guess a 3x12" would be £18. that's a big outlay for people to buy AND it costs 3x more than a normal 12". people will probably buy less and it costs the label more - big risk for non household name labels. fun if you have money to loose.

so that's the context and why we try and now offer the digital with all physical. in fact for LDN049 we did the digital tracks free plus a mix of the digital tracks and a bonus Keysound Bangers mix. just trying to make it make sense for the vinyl lover in a modern world. on "Connections..." wax we just chose the tracks we thought were most club-based, ie that vinyl DJs would want to beatmix with - even though there's the paradox that most DJs now use digi (us included) and people are buying wax for home listening. and that the DJ vinyl buyer and the home vinyl buyer might want completely different trax on wax.

(CDs seem to be dying; personally i like them for the car but i have an SD card slot there now too. they're cheaper to make but less people are buying them)

I did figure its purely a cost thing, I did wonder how you decided X over Y tune? Maybe just more Dj viable maybe?

Just copped Rabit- Sun Dragon because its payday and god knows red-eye gets money out of me on pay day. Send is the only one im abit errr on but you know the moment it "clicks" will be the day it sells out

Oh I get ya no worries, I'm fully aware of this and I can imagine you have your reasons for doing so. Also, I guess it must be tough to decide which tune will make it on the vinyl version.

Agreed on the CD. One year ago I was still an all-vinyl DJ/head/buyer, but digi eventually got me. I love dubplates but cutting one every time I love a track that's not released on vinyl would be very pricey. I was tired of being frustated about all this music I couldn't listen and play, so I bought a CDJ and have found myself buying CDs again, which I hadn't done in over a decade.

I don't really like the format, but to me between digital files and a CD it's a no-brainer - I still prefer paying to get a physical object instead of files. Of course that's when I want all or most of the tracks on the release. In this case for instance I initially thought I'd buy only the Aerospace WAV, but after listening to the snippets online I decided that I liked most of the tracks so I settled for the CD.

Anyways... Yeah, times are changing, lots of paradoxes for old-school DJs/listeners switching to digital, but as long as independent labels release quality music such as Keysound, all is good in the end.

Yeah, I always go for CD if I'm not gonna buy the vinyl (found myself buying less LPs on wax now, due to cost and mixing with them very rarely). The price is often only a couple of quid more, and I'm getting a physical product too, and I do a lot of listening in the car. Will be a shame when people finally stop making CDs.

Actually it's very often even cheaper to get the CD than the whole album as digital files! You can find new CDs for damn cheap on the Internet, whereas the discount for buying a whole album on a download site is not always so interesting.

Ah for me on the sites I used, tends to be about £10 for the CD (a lot of sites have free shipping at a tenner too) and about £8/9 for the digital, but there have been times I've bought CDs that are cheaper than DLs.

This is pure greed, I know, but I'm hoping the Lack of LHF material on Certified Connections bodes well for 2015. Need to get my hands on Amen Ra's Surrender!

Also, +1 on the love for Yamaneko. Pixel Wave Embrace is a belter.

I'm a massive fan of CDs, partly because so much music got published on CD

For sampling I go to the world music section of the library in Oslo a lot and just grab CDs off the rack, put em in the laptop and chop out what I can use

way better than traditional crate digging OR online sample searching IMO

I think it's to do with the Fletcher-Munson equal loudness curve, ie the bass frequencies have to be louder than the midrange to be heard.
