13% for people under 20.. embarrassing
but not surprising. Most of the people I know seem disenchanted with the two parties. If democrats want to survive then they'll need to start gradually adopting social democracy as the party platform. Anti-socialist propaganda is starting to look very archaic.

unlike previous generations who were more strongly exposed to "wow america is truly a great democracy, voting gives you a voice" ideology, younger people are (for good reason) more cynical, and therefore turn out less. i know i wouldnt vote here even if i could

at the end of the day voting in the us is an absolute scam, just there to keep people content by convincing them they're able to have their say. however even at a generous best, you can only really make things marginally better or worse (and thats ignoring distortions due to corporate spending, voter suppression efforts, etc).

i agree. do they really expect younger generations to get out to vote for neolibs & co? the political center in the US has shifted so far to the right in the last few decades, and almost exponentially so in the last one, mostly because the dems just kind of refused to actually push back. a strong push to the left is long overdue

though it'll never happen until there's campaign finance reform like publicly funded elections (among other things, but thats a big one)

voting at the national level for president is a scam, but for local elections i think the people do have a say. good example is Scott Brown losing in NH.

I think Fox News has had an impact beyond anything anybody could have expected 10 years ago. There's not just money in politics but also the media. If you've ever watched MSNBC you'd probably notice how underfunded they seem compared to Fox News. Fox is a political arm for the republican party and I can't tell you how many older people I've met that are completely hypnotized by Fox.

They have incessantly targeted the democrats on every single thing. A nurse gets ebola? Obama's fault. Terrorism in the middle east? Obama's fault. Putin takes Crimea? Obama's fault. Nothing happens in Congress? Harry Reid's fault - not John Boner's fault - Harry Reid's fault, and the majority of Americans credulously eat this shit up. Literally anything that happens in the world they blame it on Obama and there is no strong and tenacious voice from other news outlets to debunk these ridiculous accusations.

I wasn't politically conscious during the Bush years but I'm actually very interested to see how MSNBC acts if a republican president is elected in 2016. I highly doubt they will have as strong and effective of a voice because of monetary influences. The media consistently frames democrats as those weird "out there" people who aren't 'american', aren't fit to govern, etc.

this is the marginal choice im talking about though. brown is an obvious disaster and shaheen is clearly the better choice, but when you step back you realize youre still just choosing between two bourgeois tools that were basically picked for you in advance

Nah, a solid 50% of the country knows Fox is fucking batshit. CNN is the real problem. They're more dangerous because they hide under this false guise of impartiality they've created for themselves when they continually spit bullshit and people eat it up.

the tea party was just a reaction to a black president. theyve already waned since their 2010 peak, after obama is gone they will be even less popular

yes absolutely! the amazing thing is that they and their anchors are so incompetent in their actual news coverage that it's hard to believe what a subversive and despicable organization they are. (shoutout to that fucking uncle tom don lemon)
