Something interesting crossed my mind just now. I've been doing some reading about the Pirahã people of Brazil, and I found out that their language has no concept of numbers! Now, the tribe is a hunter-gatherer society, and so far as I know, do not use agriculture. Is it possible that the development of numbers and mathematics was a critical moment in the development of human civilization, leading to the agricultural revolution?

nah don't reckon:
"one for you, two for me"
would've been needed by hunter/gatherers too.

I'd imagine that agriculture itself pushed the conceptual thinking of mathematics forward, people started trading in larger amounts and dealing with more complex situations. I need x amount of seeds for x amount of land for example or planning crop cycles.

that is true^ and especially in trading. at least in mesopotamia or something. they used to mark for example 5 goats in stone tablets with 5 goat symbols but as the volumes got bigger when trading became more of a thing they needed symbols for different amounts of things instead of writing "goat" 50 times over

We were discussing some newspaper article about one of those people who had accidents and came out of a coma speaking a new language. We were discussing the explanations, and she was dead seriously like "I don't believe people are a blank slate, I think it could have been inherent knowledge, like maybe she was someone in a previous life who spoke german"
If you think thats a bit nuts, you must have missed the glory days of snh
And on a side note, this happened to an uncle of mine. Had a nasty fall of about 20 feet from scaffolding down to concrete, he landed face first and his eyeball came out of his head. When he woke up he spoke spanish exclusively and then proceeded, despite extensive casts and tubes coming and going from his body, to attempt to jump out of the fourth story window of his hospital room. From what he remembers he was certain he was in some type of captivity, and has no clue about the spanish. The closest he's come to hispanic/latin culture is maybe, and I even doubt this, ordering a taco. Homie is as white as a damp ghost rolled in the purest cocaine.

And no shit, I woke up to a girlfriend who was a latina, but was speaking in latin in her sleep.
I was so scared, it was so ominous, the way it first woke me up, and then realizing what was going on, I literally fell out of bed like this:
under music theres nothing for 2013 or 2014. lots of good music and lots of shit music

There is nothing new under the sun. It is suggested that mathematics and written language grew out of agriculture. These were necessary for risk spreading in agriculture which is actually very risky. All of those ancient technologies are little different from the principles behind the technologies we use today. Authentication keychains/seals all that.
But think prospectively, or concurrently, or more likely even into the recent past, think of the massive shift in markets/risk spreading, like equity markets that have gone almost totally virtual, and the technological leap that it will necessitate, is necessitating, or has recently necessitated. Out of agriculture grew the human usage of numbers, mathematics, written language. Completely divisive development in the human experience. But out of the tumultuous risk of contemporary markets, what shift in technology would be required, as significant as the shift into mathematics/written language, as divisive in the human experience?

I could probably easily sell my technics, serato and mixer and get a pair of decent monitors and an ableton controller and a MIDI keyboard with the money, would be much more useful

I'd buy your Technics if it wasn't for the distance.

don't sell your technics. you'll probably regret it in the long run. unless you're betting on the pdx1000s to make a huge impact.

don't know what pdx1000 is but you're probably right. I mean technics have retained their value for so long now and it's not likely to change but midi gear doesn't age that well... still need a pair of monitors and an apc and i'm skint lol
