first thing I've made in, like, a year lol

just was fucking around and made a fairly short hip hop-y loop but i think it's kinda groovy

Soundcloud

edit: i have no idea why it says "this track is currently not available" when i press play on the DSF link, but just click the actual sc link and it should work fine

My only comment would be that it's a little too crunchy...like you've got a good vibe going on and are using the tsssh soundings in there, but perhaps too much of them and it's taking away some of the vibes otherwise.

Standard suggestions, mix in a dry and wet signal of that bit and adjust them to balance things out a bit more.

I'm working on my first EP, and this is one of the tracks. For this EP there's quiet a lot of influences, there's some Garage/2-Step/Dubstep vibes. In this track its mostly Dubstep-ish.

The vocals are from a heavy metal song I wrote/recorded a couple of years ago. I processed the vocals quiet heavily. I used the vocals for the verses, and also chopped/pitched them up.

All the synths and pads are made using Massive and Albino 3.

I still might make some minor changes to the arrangement, and it only has a basic mix. Going to wait to finish the rest of the tracks before fully mixing and mastering them.

What you guys think? Cheers

Ahh its working now

Your mix is really weird man, loads of highs taking over the entire mix, your ambient sounds seem to be trying to drown out the track. Percussion is lost in there.

That's a bit of a harsh way to frase it imo.

There's some atmospheric parts that are too loud, but thats mostly it.
The balance of the other sounds is alright.

Look at the individual tracks rockonin and see what db they show

these are not rules, but say if the drums are at like -10 db and bass a little lower, then I would say atmospherics and pads and such should be around -20,-18 db.

you should work in the habit of doing the mixdown while producing tbh

a good idea is to have a track where you like the mixdown and have that on a track soloed for comparison

just a thought

I always mix as I go along, there is loads of processing on the mix from eq,compression, saturation etc But not really not in the context of final mixdown. This will be my first ep, so i thought by waiting until all the tracks are finished, i could then have some continuity in the mixdowns.

Sine that mix sounds good and well balanced. That 808 fits really nicely in the mix. The only thing for me is the mix is a little dry overall, reverb wise, but that's just personal preference.
