One of the companies I speak to regularly has their hold channel as syndicated news headlines and sports results. It's not much, but it's more enjoyable than an instrumental cover version of Coldplay.

That's a really nice approach... I guess people would get confused over whether they were still connected with silence, but all these softly rising chords are deein' me fecking heed in.

For some reason after I got through, he put me on hold again and it started playing Stravinsky instead of General MIDI Mood Music Vol 395. Better.

Our conference call hold music is a mix between the M&S "This Isn't Just Food..." campaign soundtrack and some JRPG b-sides.
