I've watched the first 2 seasons of MLPFIM with my girlfriend. We were curious about the internet male fanbase so checked it out.

To be honest it's reasonably enjoyable in a ironic, easy-watching kinda way. The characters are pretty decent and every now and again there'll be a laugh.

That being said there are awful songs and cringey bits about how 'friendship is magic'...

The show itself doesn't exclusively cater to a young female audience, I'd say it can have qualities a fair few people would enjoy. It's self-conscious and apart from one or two characters, the ponies aren't 'girly' at all - just ponies.

But having defended the show a bit, it does confuse me that people feel the need to shout about being a 'brony' ( smh). Just like others have said, defining yourself by a program you watch and enjoy is seriously excessive.

If you go around declaring your love for a (on the surface) childrens cartoon, expect the ridicule that more-often-than-not is sent your way.
