If "they" killed Bin Laden in Abbottabad then "they" also bombed a large number of wedding parties in Afghanistan, "they" murdered 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha and "they" gang-raped a 14-year-old before murdering her, her six-year-old sister and their parents near Mahmudiyah. If "they" don't want to be associated with the atrocities then "they" need to find more to celebrate than an assassination. Vengeance is, in no small part, what got us here. It won't get us out.
This is an excellent way of putting it, really makes you think. Good article noam.

Clearly you don't understand the nature of conspiracy theorists.

In terms of internal consistency, the article says that American unity disdains reflection but opens by citing The Simpsons, a highly reflective television show that remained extremely popular for over a decade.

In terms of shallowness, as the article states, as "hundreds poured into the streets" to celebrate Osama's death. Yeah, hundreds. We've got well over 300 million. Nothing like that happened where I live. I suggest that this article is propaganda, and you happily lap it up.

Not that the article doesn't capture a piece of American sentiment, but it is only a piece. I could easily watch some videos of your uk fucktard skin heads and conclude that the UK if filled with white moronic racists, and I'd be right to an extent, wouldn't I, but that'd hardly come close to capturing your national character. Or would it?

Just remember it's from the Guardian and is meant for Guardian readers, AKA the "we never should have been there/not in my name" crew.
A 'better than thou' feel is all they have now coz OBL got got.
Read a daily Telegraph article for balance.

I'm from the US. I don't think the Simpsons being an intelligent show had much influence on its success. I had a roommate in college ask why I was watching The Simpsons, saying that it was for kids (he watches reruns of Family Guy every night). A hefty portion of their jokes are over most peoples heads.

Amercans don't pour into the streets for anything other than a Super Bowl victory. The fact that people were out there at all is reflective of how many feel. I think the articles main point is the irony of thinking we are somehow better off now because hes dead.

OR. Americans don't pour into the streets for anything other than a Super Bowl victory, or McDonalds is doing the buy one get one free offer on all Big Macs.

No but seriously *clap clap* America did good this time, but coming out with "We cannot release the images of the body of Osama Bin Laden for fear of a spark of reactions by Al Qaeda" it's as if they're making any old excuse up.

America vs Britain bullshit man. Who gives a fuck? Can't people just accept that if there's a group of people in Britain/USA, odds are there's gonna be an equivalent in the other.

Not really. People say "we" killed bin Laden because we all collectively supported that goal. The majority of the United States was in support of capturing or killing him, and the majority was pleased when it happened. Sure, in some minute way, we're all responsible for the atrocities committed abroad, but we also resent them and punish those that commit them, indicating that we, as a society, are distancing ourselves from such heinous acts. Going by that logic, I, a German born in 1990 is responsible for the Holocaust by nature of supporting Germany presently. Doesn't really make sense, does it?
