No no no it's more like the stereotypical "atheists" that I know are the ones who are tnucs and in you face about it, and I don't want to be a part of that so I don't classify myself as one
yeah but that has fuck all to do with atheism. it's like saying "yeah i'm a homo sapiens but i don't classify myself as human because i've met some dickheads in my time"
richard dawkins is a prick and i want nothing to do with the guy. but that doesn't mean i'm not an atheist. it's nothing more than arrogance to think you are some how distancing yourself from pricks by falsely excluding yourself from being defined in the same set as them. atheism just means nonbelief in gods. that's all. it doesn't mean "people who are pricks". if you want to not be defined as a prick, don't act like a prick.
FWIW, which is not much, there have been plenty of atheists you'd wanna be in the same set as... it wouldn't bestow upon you amazing philosophical insight or scientific achievement to call yourself one though...

also, i'd rather try and be converted by a religious person than a fucking atheist tnuc, every single time people have tried to convert me or make me more religious, they do it out of care or for my own good, and the lessons they preach can still be useful in life when taking out of a religious context - however, i've never met an atheism-campaigner (fucking irony) whose condescending, cliched-ridden bile couldn't simply be shortened to "U R A STUPID LOL"
you need to meet some good atheists then. what do you call a campaigning atheist?
a scientist
I meet plenty of "good atheists" aka normal people who do not hold a belief in god or religion, but you know "evangelical atheists" who wont shut the fuck up, who like to bring up their beliefs at every opportunity and state as may fallacies as your average believer. I'm very aware that the majority of people i know are probably atheists too, but we dont bang on about it at the smallest opportunity.
In the same way religious people / "bronies" let god/cartoons define who they are, these stupid hypocritical mouthy athiests wear slogans like crosses and preach dawkins like scripture, these are society's true idiots.

well yea, i am wary of anyone who is trying to push their beliefs on me. those people are not native to one belief though. i find the religious people to be the most taxing, since most are indifferent to logic and reason.

See though, just playing the Devil's advocate fractal, wouldn't a religious person say that WE (the atheists) are indifferent to logic and reason?

i don't think so. I was born catholic, raised Pentecostal, defected into buddhism and then finally found my own truth in my late 20's. I have read the bible front to back numerous times and can state with confidence that there is not too much logic and reason in there. there are still a lot of truths though, I admit that. Treating others as you would like to be treated, teach a man to fish, etc... really good stuff, i try to learn from it.

Yes but I think a very religious person would read Darwin's Origin of Species and say the same thing that you just said about the Bible

right, except that darwin based his book on observable facts and experimentation, and the bible is based on....
plus darwins book hasn't been mistranslated to shit
for example, in hebrew there are over 400 words for god, some of them female and some of them plural - the king james translation is "GOD" for everyone of those words, because monotheism was fashionable at the time. Hebrew has two words for heaven(s), one meaning paradise of an afterlife and the other meaning the skys above us, literally - king james translation is the paradise "Heaven" for all instances. this goes on for multiple words and meanings... Plus the roman catholic church took any books out of the cannon that did not follow their idea of what jesus was, as laid down by the pagan emperor Constantine and his appointed lackeys in the nicene creed.
comparing the two "books" is a bit misleading to say the least

Hmmm wasn't aware of that....
Also the bible has been rewritten and mangled for people's self-serving purposes throughout the years, so probably not a super reliable resource anymore (not that it ever really was imo)
I see your point

also pretty crucially, darwin's origin of species is not a bible of any kind. it was groundbreaking when it was published but no one need rely on it ultimately for anything, it has been built upon and superceded by the investigation and discoveries that followed it

Yeah and I think a lot of it was actually proved wrong in later years

Lol this argument once again. One thing i will say though, atheists have never massacred thousands of people to prove points or spread their beliefs. Most of the time when atheists get on their soapbox its purely down to the fact that many religious people disbelieve all sense and logic when it comes to a lot of things. Like ive said though, this argument will rage on forever most likely so its pointless to go over it again.

Another really stupid belief and name people let themselves be defined by : "skepticism" and "skeptics"
Literally the stupidest thing, you spend time "debunking" ghosts and magic crystals? I am actually laughing in your general direction.
I do get why people turn to religion though, be it mainstream christian or "alternative beliefs". I guess it can be pretty scary to lead a "meaningless" life. Also, can't/won't say atheism is better; since the Age of Enlightenment man has successfully replaced religion with consumption and universalist political ideologies.

Being skeptic requires no effort at all though, its pretty much just the opposite of being gullible. I'm skeptic in the sense that i don't believe anything to be true unless there is evidence, but I don't go around debunking anything.
Oh and william lane craig is incredibly dumb, up there with banana guy

People will believe anything, I just bought a book off amazon that is investigative journalism where the journalist spends the book talking to this cult of conspiracy theory extremists who truly believe that the world is secretly run behind the scenes by man-eating pedophile lizards.
I kid you not.

How do you not know the journalist made the whole thing up for you to believe?

Well I don't, but he's a fairly well known journalist and author. He wrote Men Who Stare At Goats, which was made into a really well known movie, and I found him through another book I read by him called the psychopath test about how a lot of people high up in the business world are probably psychopaths
