@ Gaol interesting sounding drums on this track. percussions are nice too. its good that you've turned up the bass, and i bet it sounds okay on "shitty headphones". but still needs to be turned up alot more i think. try using a multiband compressor or adjusting the EQ to give the sub some more lift. Nice track though keep it up.
@ Xgrynz Not a bad start. In this track you are using 2 or 3 mid range basslines over the whole song? instead try and use the 2 or 3 mid range basslines over a single bar and it will sound alot more interesting than your average another wobble track. also maybe EQ your synths a bit differently or adjust the amount of reverb on them cu i feel that they are swamping the whole mix. not bad so far though.
@ Turnipish Thoughts Nice tune lots of space created with the delays and changes in the EQ on some of the instruments. Would be interesting to hear this without bit-crusher/distortion running on some of the background percussions/sounds. Nice automation on the snare drum during the breakdown again creates alot of space. Kinda hurts at 3:34 maybe it's just a little bit too loud especially for that mid range frequency and definitely drowns out the sub for a moment. I'd tone that down just a couple of DB's or put a limiter on it. Nice track thumbs up!
@AirFree Not a bad start, I do however think the bass would sound nicer a couple of semitones lower. But maybe you could save this for another drop? Could use a fat sub bass over the top of this to really get the place shaking, as i'm mostly just getting mid range from the current bass notes. That reggae stab is just a tiny bit to loud aswell i think. Like the pattern on the drums though. Some vocals and gunshots and a sub bass and this will be a nice track.
@Dmtsbreaks I thought the track Killa was gonna be really nice but theres just way too much going on and i get a bit lost listening to it. Im not saying it's bad, just not to my taste. Reminds me a bit of Burials work but definitely use some work in my honest opinion. The track Nights i thought was a lot nicer. The synths in it are really rich and the drums over the sub bass create quite a dramatic effect. The vocals work really nicely with it too. Sounds like your mxing on some nice headphones or monitors at least because everything fits quite nicely in the mix. Nice work so far.
This track of mine is almost finished and in the mastering stage. I've never spent too long mastering a track so i could use some tips as to what you think. Soundcloud

@Turnipish Thoughts Really love Your sound! I know it's still wip, but it's pretty much solid - i would like to see some progression in melody half of this song after build up.
@ xgrynz gets sound levels need to be worked on.. And at the moment, lead and bassline makes it sounds too full. EQuing would help
@Gaol try adding some texture on that sub line as it sounds hollow. Love your other song on the sig ;D
And here is my 40 minutes of work, just playing around Soundcloud

Listening through pretty crappy speakers so I'm gonna limit my comments to composition/arrangement rather than production.
Gaol: I like the percussion you got going here, esp the conga-type sound that comes in around the :50 mark. I think you could achieve a really nice effect if you introduced some variety into the rolls this drum makes, throw in some triplets or such. Other than that, builds nicely, good little roller. The sub sounds quiet to me, but like I say I've got crap speakers and the waveform looks pretty full around the breakdown
1stfeist: can't offer much advice on mastering right now so I'm gonna comment on your diana ross sex tape. 42-54 seconds was my favourite part, thats a really nice groove between the bass and the sample. This feels like it's going somewhere epic, but the intro was a little long/oversped for my taste. I'd like to see that spacey groove fleshed out
dmtsbreakz: This is pretty different. Really moody atmosphere, the sample reminds me of the kid from Liquid Swords (the shogun sent his ninja spies to our house...) I like the textures a lot, rhythm and melody could do with elaboration though. Some hat or tom-esque sounds could tie the grove together nicely imo
Is it a dick move to post 2 short wips? They're both basically manifestations of the same idea and both less than 1 minute. Upbeat/funky kinda thing

@Gaol - If you added a few low passed synth plucks/stabs forming some minimal sounding melodic progression, the song would be 100% better.
@dmtzbreakz - very dark and hypnotic. I think a heavy shuffled rimshot would sound amazing with that atmosphere
@1stfiest - that snare sample is horrible, and the song doesnt have fluid progression.
@barr_mars - i hate to sound rude, but neither of those sound very musical. feels disjointed.
Here's our submission for a remix competition. Still missing a lot of the orchestral one shots and a proper mixdown (blast you nice weather). So we had to submit a somewhat unfinished track.

@1stfiest- Love this track. Reminds me of a more minimalist Burial. I would just add a bit more percussion and reverb to fill up the empty spaces, but your production is spot-on
@dmtsbreaks- I fucking love your style dude. It's really unique. There's not much I would change about this, besides maybe adding a lead, but the track is so filled out and airy, that it doesnt really need one. Nice!
@bars_marr- Really chilled and smooth sounding. I feel like something could be done to give it a bit more presence, but I'm not sure what. Has an amazing vibe though. Can't wait to hear the full version
Here's an update on my latest WIP. I'm still trying to get that heavy dubstep midrange/sub sound and I've started resampling and frequency splitting. I think this mix is pretty good. Feed back appreciated! Soundcloud

@dmtsbreak - Great track, like the vocal. Can I ask, where did you find it? Also, loving the vibe and how it's just like a cutoff building up in the intro.
@1stfiest - Great track, felt really spaced out with this one. Great samples and felt like old school dubstep, the only thing IMO that needs changing is the snare, make it less of a "hard-hitter" and it would fit the track just great.
@bl0rg - Nice, liking the intro a lot, the build-up is great, if anything I say the bass needs to be worked on just a bit and put a nice sub there to make it sound more full, because at the minute to me it sounds ever so slightly empty. Big ups.
@Acro - Great intro, you need to work on the snare (give it more of a punch and make it just a bit louder) the build-up (especially that "Oh my god" sample which I thought did not even fit.), get rid of the "yoi" sound and replaces it with something that fits better and also replace the sound at 2:05.
My latest WIP, old-skool dubstep (my favourite <3) but yeah, lemme know what you guys think.

Mr Aural: Liking the rhythm, some reverb would make it sound better Bars Marr: Sick idea! this tune has some potential.Liking the chords very much, just add sub,and drop shoud be very powerfull Acro:I Think theres to many high end in the mix,was listening thru headphones, and some bits were painfull to my ears
Heres my work in progress, think its allmoast finished, mixed in headphones, would love some feedback/criticism,thanks

Funnily enough, the original track had reverb on the snare.

@donpablo - Although this isn't my cup of tea, it does have some good quality in production. The drums are punchy and strong and it seems that the main goal was to make something for the dancefloor which works! Like I said, it's not my cup of tea as I find the tear out stuff quite generic and the music is quite disposable, but from a production point, I don't think I can think of much to advise on.
@Mraural - The drums you have used are not quantised which gives it a nice feel, but quite amateurish. The sub bass is just a solid block, which is quite boring and perhaps too loud. When it comes through it muddys up the mids and trebles.
@Bl0rg - BEAST CHOON! The intro is just straight mad. When the drums came in, I was a little sad, as I knew it would drop into some tear out stuff and was hoping for a sinister, clinical dubstep track that is Kryptic minds esq so the drop was a little disappointing. All in all though, the track is a BEAST.
@dmtsbreakz - Jheez! Beautiful track. The start sounds really cheap and I imagined quite a cheap production value to continue, but then the vocals come through and the beat just takes form. Really nice all in all. Keep at it!!
@Gaol - Attempt at a clinical type of beat. Take the reverb off the kick and the high hats and just keep it on the snare. Bit too much reverb! And then add a few more faster hats to get that roll. Liking it so far anyway!
This one is not completely done. Quite a bit of tweaking. But it will be in an album coming out next month that will be available for free download. It's all Hiphop stuff around 100BPM. Let me know your thoughts and spam the track about on Facey B!

Feedback for everyone: @donpablo Your intro is quite nice, not too keen on the open hat. Main body is quite good, your drums are nice and punchy. Not my sort of stuff in general, but quite a cool track. No real tips for improving. @MrAural Not sure about this one. The percussion sounds good, but it's very repetitive, try adding some panned one shots around. @Acro Your intro is quite nice, I like the melodies you've used. Drop is really quite nice, the track sounds really full although some of your high frequencies are kind of harsh. Just work on blending all your stuff together. @bl0rg Really nice intro and build up. I'd say your bass needs something else though, maybe more sub or white noise? Good track though.
Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems.
Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated
Thanks.

dmtsbreakz: it's good, very atmospheric, I like how vocals really work well with the rest of the song. I know it's dubstep but at some spots a DNB beat would work pretty well I think.
bars_marr: interesting, however, I wonder how different it would sound with some deep bass added somwhere.
Acro: finally something more aggressive in this topic. It's alright, but some basslines could be 'thicker' and what MrAural said about 'yoi' sound.
mthrfnk: awesome sounds! Some glitch effects would be really nice there.

@MrAural: Tiny bit of reverb wouldn't go a miss on the drums. Sub seems a little muddy to me, but it might be my speakers, they're not particularly accurate that low. Nice flow with the drums but, interested to see where you take it, diggin the 2-steppy vibe.
@djseizure: This is brilliant. Drums are perfect; the violiny sound (I'm not exactly sure what instrument it is haha) could maybe sit a bit louder in the mix.
@TurnipishThoughts: Love this, only thing I feel with the the drums is that seem a bit too aggy for a track like this? Just feel something a little softer with a bit of shuffle would fit so much better. Nevertheless, very very good production.
Wrote this yesterday afternoon, inspired by Althea & Donna's Uptown Top Ranking. It's pretty simplistic, and I think the arrangement needs a bit of work to keep it more interesting. Also can't decide whether the sax stays or if it's too cheesey. All comments welcome, although this isn't mixed yet, so anything on arrangement/sounds to remove/ideas for stuff to add would be most helpful!

@ arvis: The kick and snare need work. The snare sounds almost completely like white noise and has no dynamics. The kick is decent but lacks defenition in the high end. Don't personally care for the lead in the beginning, I would go with something for a bit more movement. The melody itself is pretty good, along with some of the synth work towards the end.
@ekid: Really nice track here. I'd probably change the hat sounds because mix-wise everything else is pretty clean and crisp, but they aren't, so it sounds a bit strange. I might use something different for the bass so you can get some pluck to it so it's not just straight sub. Definitly a catchy tune thus far. Nice work
@ Mr Aural. I like the groove. There's one hat that's really harsh and loud and after a bit it drones out my ears. I'd bring it down and take a small notch out of the problem frequency. Keep working on this and adding other elements and this could be really nice. Sub seems either a bit low or too low in volume. My monitors are just picking about a slight rumble (could be because I don't have a sub though)
Here's my latest WIP:
Soundcloud
I don't really know what genre it fits in. I'm tempted to say garage but it doesn't have the same groove and the temp is 170. Anyways, the transistions are shit and it's really poorly mixed, but I'd still love to hear peoples' thoughts on what they think of it so far. Thanks in advance.

@djseizure: Big track! Only thought is maybe any high pitch middle eastern instrument over the top. Will keep an eye out for the EP
@mthrfnk: I hate electro so can't help much... But I do like the intro
@Aruis: More percussion in the intro, would be my only suggestion
@ekidd91: great shuffle on the hats, bassline sounds almost like one of mark pritchard's, i like the sax but a little louder and maybe with some verb/delay would match the carribean feel to it, plus id turn down the guitar
@cmgoodman1226: call it drumstep? snare roll's nice, id mess with the levels on a few of the synths, hats at 1:30 sound fantastic, maybe drop a lot out further on and go with sub whole/half notes sounds like itd be appropriate for a switch up
pure house, the vocals are supposed to sound like that (check the original if you haven't)
would love some feedback, kind of stuck on it atm
i know it needs tons of work just wondeing who is feeling check in with you soon thanks.

Hey guys!
Just switched to ableton and am learning all about key at the moment, No EQ work as I dont have a plugin that I like but am getting one asap.
Any comments on my structure elements etc etc, need some constructive criticism! This is the whole intro upto what will be a drop if I can get it to fit in right

@rayman612 like the percussion that comes in a lot. Interesting vocals for sure. the synth sounds very pink floyd-y but i dig it. good job man, sounds nice!
@cmgoodman1226 the snare rolls are awesome, and perc in general is sharp. I think the drums are obviously at the forefront of your track, which works for awhile, but that eventually has to change to create a longer, immersive track. Try bringing a synth lead to the forefront eventually or something. idk. sounds cool so far, good luck!
@ekidd91 I like the reggae feel. I really expected something to come in at 0:55s, maybe you should consider that. I really like the plucky guitar or whatever at 2:35s!!! keep working at it, youve got a good thing goin
@Arvis this track could really turn out sweet, but i would do a few major changes if i were you. I would definitely do some form of a build before introducing the vocals. I would also bounce between vocals and some nice wobbles. I hate to say this on this board but it wouldnt be bad to model a skrillex-type arrangement here, as far as chopping up the vocal samples and incorporating your wobbles. Good luck man!
Here is my latest progressive house track. I'm really looking for final feedback on my mixing before i wrap things up, as well as any small issues you guys can find. Thanks!
