It probably depends on the causes and type of the depression.... smoking does inhibit seratonin in the brain, which can make people who are susceptible to it depressed.
On the other hand, it is a relaxant and can help reduce some forms of anxiety.

I have two close friends who are these exact cases - one is diagnosed depressed due to a lack of sertonin in the brain which has built up from a year of intense smoking. The other has self medicated with it all her life and it helps her avoid panic attacks. Believe you me - you need to be gentle round her when she hasn't been smoking.

not in relation to whats allready going on here

i am contemplating two occurances last night

the first of which being me getting out of a car at the end of my road after work, at about half eleven (i know this makes me sound like a ho..)

after i get out of the car i start walking towards my house, two yutes *probably a year younger than me* hop accross a garden fence directly infront of me,

i pay it preeety much 0% mind as i don't recognise them, continue walking on an unfaultered pathway, as i'm just out of arms reach of the main cat who's just stood there looking at me, he says "prk."

i'm like....

so i turn my head around, if anything just to get a good look at these two..

i don't actualy stop walking (not trying to cause confrontation myself)

and it begins, "wot." "wtf u lookin at" "oi u prk come here wot"

i'm all like... ok.... kids.... do i go back... no.

i keep walking, they keep shouting, i keep walking, they stop shouting, i think, cool, they've given up, i didnt rise to the bait... cool.

then i hear running.. i'm like... O.K

i slow my walk down to a mosey, not looking back,

suprisingly enough they don't try and attack me from behind, simply coming round me and standing infront of me, by this point i'm probably only 4 doors from my gaff and i'm thinking hmm...

so ones infront of me and he just stops there, i don't stop, pushing him aside silently, then he swings.

now outside of context this all seems pretty generic bullshit, but i'm no fighter, not only am i no fighter, until this event i was pretty much petrified of my area as previous interactions lead to huge escilations involving numerous things i don't really want to go into, lets just say heavy shit.

anyway this kid hits me on the side of the face, knocking away my glasses,

then it was over.

in that split second i had returned fire with my non dominant hand, sending the assailant reeling into the bush's,

I think my rapid response could have been partialy due to smoking in the car on the way home, but anyway as soon as i had rocked the first yutes world i had allready gripsed the second one by the face ( who was at this point trying to attack me also ) and restrained him in a headlock,

then for a second the dust settled, and a sence of realisation must have dawned on them both as i stood ready.

all i said was "what....? get the fuck out of here."

and they did.

not before trying to come back and pick up a half a fucking richmond one had dropped in the affray?!?

i was like no. leave it. get the fuck out of here.

and so they did, i tried to find my now long lost specs to no avail

then i go indoors and discover re-noise! awesome! (whilst drinking half a bottle of stolly and Oj and watchin l.ot.r - the return

by the time i'm finished messing about with the new software its allready 6 in the morning light outside,

so (whilst wearing my "spare pair" of specs (with the right lense in only) i go outside to find my regular specs outside lodged into the bush, with the plastic frame broken, but the left lense in tact!

anyway

sorry if you've just sat and read this expecting something else, not sure why i'm posting it, just feel like it

I hate this kind of shit man, it happens all the time. Fucking widos starting shit and all you do is stand up for yourself and it turns into, "You hit my brother/cousin/son/grandson" and youve suddenly got famlies all up in your face.

Thats bollocks mate. U shuda went to ur gaff after and drew for something SMFH. I would of.

I hate things like this. it makes me paronoid about gonig out. So i always walk with sumthin these days, just in case.

But what you say is true, part of my concern in situations like this is how easy would it be for one of them to be carrying a tool.. then what, i loose my life just for the sake of some kids rep? ridiculous if you ask me, weapons are what change the streets, dont get me wrong i don't particularaly like fighting but damn i don't care if i get the shit kicked out of me twelve times by twelve dudes twelve times my size, rather that than some little crack skank opens me up for the sake of a few quid or his mates opinion of him.
