unnecessary really...
doin the usual over the top shit, taking youtube-comment emotions to the real stage. etc
Tbf tho nobody is there to judge or care what you do....but when your actions negatively effect others and make several ppl behind the decks to tell you calm down, then your doing something wrong. LOL

Re: SYSTEM
Ahhhh okay I think ive got the energy to write something proper. I almost dont want to post any of this for reasons that should make sense, but I just have to.
So, so hard to explain why it was the best night ive ever been to. The dmz feel, vibe and sound, 100%, but without any of the recognisable, tangeable elements that made dmz what it was. Now dont get me wrong, my first few years of going to dmzs I would happily say were the best nights of my life growing up, walking down to mass every 2 months with the same crew discussing what tunes you were desperate to hear that night, while walking at the pace of a quick jog. But yeah, anyone who has been to dmzs since those days im sure would agree that by (what is now I think fair to say) the end, they just werent the same. The 6th birthday was the last one I went to, and technical problems aside it just wasn't quite there. It was a huge night of music for sure, but it didnt have any of the old dmz feel left. Feel like a prick saying stuff like this but I mean it so honestly. Best example for me was 6th birthday, mala dropping anti war dub. Now, the last time I had heard that dropped was the 4th bday I think, and back then the place was just blown away. More so than when it was originally getting battered. Because everyone in the room knew what it meant to hear it, more than just 5 minutes of skankout, its a total trip back in time that comes with all the nostalgia and joy of previous dmzs, you can feel the emotion from mala up front and everyone else around you. It was a real experience. Come the 6th birthday however, and anti war dub got greeted by a wave of cheers, and a bit more movement from the crowd. But you could still hear and see people talking around you. Didnt have the appreciation...Just didnt feel right. None of that at system though. Every single person in that crowd was completely switched on, just from the roar of the crowd you could tell it was a wall of people truly appreciating the meaning behind and the memories associated with dropping a tune like AWD...
So yeah, a crowd of the best heads ive ever seen at a night. I mean, really I came down on my own for this. Came down to meet with Juan and Oli (big up you guys, and everyone else...but more on that later) but ended up by the speakerstack with 10-20 familiar faces, all from having met in the smoking area at old dmzs, or subloadeds or any of the original nights where you would see the same faces there every time. I cant count how many times I had a word-less conversation with random smiling faces that you could tell was something along the lines of "no night has felt like this in 3-4 years, im so happy". Hearing dun stinky get dropped and looking across the crowd to see every arm in the place in the air. Not just the front row, even people standing near the bar at the back knew exactly what was getting played and why we were all so lucky to be there for it.
System brought the music, the crowd brought the vibe.
And yeah, the music. Oh my god the music. So much variation from tune to tune, while every single track that got played had the exact same heart. Nothing but conscious, raw music with its roots firmly planted in the dub/reggae soundsystem culture. Within three tracks you could hear augustus pablo, neverland and some fucked up coki tearout, but it never felt jarring at any point. Every track selected, when played on a rig the size of that, takes on the same monstrous energy. Bass, rhythm, space...everything that dubstep represented for years. Then the list of classics that turned up unannounced, no extra hype, no real conscious thought of "im going to play a classic now" either, just mala and vivek playing their sound, which of course includes the stuff that they have been feeling since day one. The list of mala dubs was insanse. Anti war dub, neverland, lean fwd, dun stinky, 2 much chat, mountain dread march, Cay's crays remix...then coki - soundboy, loefah - its yours...and so many others. All the tunes I grew up with at dmzs in my late teens. Then hands down the best selection of current bass music you could imagine.
I dont need to point out how amazing the sound of system is. The rig has so much weight, but with amazing clarity of sound. Never as much pressure as mass had at times, but it didnt matter. Raw energy coming out of those speakers, sound and feeling.
So yeah. Trust mala (and of course vivek, legend) to create a night that has come full circle amidst a scene of music that for a while I had almost written off, as something that could never recreate that true feeling of early dmzs, and what dubstep really was. But by moving forward and doing something completely different, it got brought completely back to its roots. The more I think about the night, the more I realise how much was on the line for mala and vivek. They had no idea what the night was going to be like. At all! ALL they had planned was a huge rig, a good, dark venue and 2 bags of dubs. Then, the night was never advertised as a dubstep night, there were no other names on the bill, and from what I can see almost no active pushing of the night. Mala and vivek just put the word out there that they had a soundsystem, and that they are going to host a night of music. And in doing so, they completely shed a section of the crowd who had begun to turn up to dmzs for reasons far from what was going on back in the day. The only people that turned up are the ones that will be interested in dubstep enough to first find out that the night existed, and who then have enough faith and trust in mala and vivek, that they know to just buy a ticket and turn up. Ive never had less idea about what a night I was going to was going to be like, but I have faith in no one more than mala, and once again he showed a room full of people why this is the case. And of course, you could tell how much it meant to mala too. Again, they had no idea what to expect, all they were doing was bringing a bag of tunes to a rig in a village hall, but what happened in that room transcended the night itself. True, real vibes, and the nostalgia that brought with it. I was feeling emotional by the end of the night, and it felt too real to see mala at the end, after a handshake and a truly heartfelt thank you from half the crowd, become a bit overwhelmed by the emotion. No mistake, this was the most important night I think ive ever been to. After the dmz camp clearly thinking that to some degree, the night has come to its end - with a total change in sound and crowd of the scene they helped create - to then totally, and completely recreate what was important about those early nights, while doing something completely new was something special. Seriously special.
Out to everyone in attendance. While I could never thank mala and vivek enough for making this night happen, my thanks is really with every person who was in that room. You cannot create the feeling of that night out of nothing. It just took the perfect music selection by two people who have always been in the scene for the right reasons, and a crowd of people who appreciated it in such a profound way to create a night unlike anything else ive ever attended. So honestly, the most love to every single person in that room.
And also an extra little bit of love to ninja corner. So great to meet everyone I did, new faces and old. Turning up to a night pretty much by yourself, but ending up with a space on the dancefloor surrounded by familiar, smiling faces is yet another example of why this night could not have been better. Seeing 20/30 people standing around the speakerstack sit down on the floor occasionaly, just to feel the INTENSE sea of bass that was down there by the subs just isn't something you see every day. Such a relaxed atmosphere. Felt more welcome and comfortable than any night ive ever been to.
Last call shout to the ninjas again. Cant thank you enough oli for putting me up for the night, drinks and smokes before/after were just as much a part of the night. Hugely appreciated. Wicked crowd of people at your place that night/the next day. Out to Juan as well, of course. So nice to see you again man. Cant explain how happy I am we got to share the experience of system. And out to everyone else, thank you so much BNanni, was great to meet you, as well as the rest of you lovely smiling ninja types. Big up luke, kay and everyone else I kept grabbing and saying "THIS IS JUST LIKE DMZ USED TO BE!!". You were all awesome. We all had an awesome time. And even now 2 days after I still cant remember the last time ive been on this much of a high. Emotional, euphoric and nostalgic. The perfect night.
Mala and vivek, words cannot thank enough. Vibes I truly havent felt since the dmz 2nd birthday. And possibly more...

Wiggle, you summed up the night absolutely perfectly. Reading that just brought back all the emotions I was feeling that night. It really was an intense night, no other words than perfect. Was so great to meet you, we'll definitely have to hit the floor together again.

Coki - Duppy Sour and the impact on the system and those who've remembered in attendance still shows Coki makes system music, no watered down shit. Is like the first time hearing Goblin or Tree Trunk at DMZ.
