To all my beat-heads, I was thinking, and I had an idea. For the more hip-hoppish type producers we have this thread and the TUNA! flip, although I haven't been able to submit a TUNA! tune in awhile so Idk if people are even still doing the flips. But anyway, I was thinking about maybe starting a thread along the lines of "What have you sampled lately" where we could share dope samples we found lately, and maybe share links to the tunes you made from the sample. It might be refreshing to see what other people are sampling, also I could see a lot of people not being down for this because they might not want other people biting their samples. But I think that's a little silly. What do you guys think about a thread like that?

Not to mention the illegality.

It's not illegal to sample a song, just to release it without paying royalties. Any sampling done for recreation or practice isn't a copyright infringement. Unless you meant people sharing sample pack type stuff?

Lately I've been just combing through my library of foley stuff. Taking snippets of water to use as convolution IRs, using crunchy textures to layer with drums, etc. Today I had a few really nice sounds set up in string studio and lounge lizard that I was about to resample, had a harp, j bass, and super thick wurlitzer, all sounding really smooth. Crash before I could resample any of them, of course. Midi clips got recovered, all the patches got re-initialized. Tried to rebuild them, got a fraction of the mojo back, crash again, rage quit. I just accepted the transience of that particular jam and let it stay in the ether. It was one of those scenarios where the timbre really carried all the parts. It sounded weak as fuck without the original patches.

But yeah, physical modelling synths + audio textures + resampling ftw. Usually works out quite well for me. Between convolution, granulator, and resonators, I can usually get something harmonic that also has interesting texture. That gets sampled and diced up and used as the seed of the track as if it came off vinyl.

I hate when my computer crashes, I don't even get mad. Just really, really, really sad. But I meant more like what's in the thread that Bud posted, like tunes you samples or bits from movies and TV. That kinda thing. But I wouldn't really know how to get it started, so the idea will probably just stay here.

i mean you could start a new one maybe bit more organised than mine but still imo its not THAT hard to find samples
that said its still a cool idea to have kinda a database or sth to start a daily youtube marathon from
:Q:

Nah, it's not hard to find samples. But I have some types of stuff that's my "go to" shit, ya know? I just thought it would be interesting to see what that is for other people.

That sounds good. I'll have to dig through some of my recent tunes and see what I sampled, just so the thread can start off with a little more than just one or two samples. But, I was thinking they wouldn't even just have to be joints you already flipped, but like shit you were planning on flipping. Just samples that you used, or thought about using. But obviously if it was something you used, it would make sense to link your tune and give some details as to why you used the sample.

Yeah, his style is dope. It's pretty unique. There's a quirky beat that starts at like 18 minutes that really stands out to me for some reason.

You think it is unique? Lemme listen again. I enjoyed it, there was a lot done right, but I didn't hear anything too unique, like unique to him? Lemme listen better. I liked the timing of the beats, the structure, the texture, the sampling, the quirkiness of those samples, but just overall thought it was kinda well within what I call hip hop. Is it like back pack or something? I don't keep up with the terminology. Whatever though, it is dope.

I mean, yeah, it's hip hop. I mean unique for that, and for him. He has his own voice within the realm of hip hop to me.

The cool thing that Exile did was when he started sampling whatever was on the radio and made beats off it, very intuitive process and i was seriously feeling the beats he made that way

And yes nevalo hahah :Q:
