@ sprayyypaint

Bass and synths sound good. The drums are really snapping me out of the vibe. I see where you were going, but they are a little too "out there" to catch a feel for the song. Maybe just go for some straight forward drums and add your creative touch with ghost notes and hi hat patterns. Check mine out a few posts up or it's in my sig.

@Darj - gorgeous. Right up my alley (check my tune I'm about to post). Would love a 320 or at least trade :) Not much to say other than I think the snare doesn't quite fit the ambience/feel of the rest of the tune. The right reverb on this and a different sample I think would suit it a little better. purely subjective though. Technically speaking, i can't fault it.
@budspencertron - Those first 8 bars are way too long, with just atmospherics. Really interesting samples in the intro. Really like it. Again, can't really find anything to fault other than a lack of top-end (maybe a little exciter there to bring out the highs a bit more?)
@jetpack - sounds a bit muddy, also snare sample seems a bit lacklustre. Good production tbh, though it reminds me of (no offense) a tune for some cheap snes game or something. hehe
@gaol - ouch. That screeching synth just pure hurts. It's way too loud over the kick/snare which needs some serious beefing - in fact the entire beat does. Some variations/other synths would do well.
@dougriley - reminds me of early matty g, has that slight hip-hop influence. That lead synth... I'm not so sure about.
@glue reed - beat sounds really muddy and unclear. You need to have a look at your samples and levels, both need some TLC. Some variations in the beat wouldn't go astray. The bass, when it changes and goes into a square-wave style lfo, I do like that, was unexpected.
@mthrfnk - different, I like it. Due to the synths and guitar work, the snare seems like it could hit for longer, try one with a longer tail to really cut through. Epic intro and I like the soft synth that breaks it up. Looking forward to an update :)
@sprayyypaint - those synths and vocal chops? sound quite good. Glitch hop? Sounding bangin' tbh. Always enjoy listening to this stuff cos I can't make it (yet).

Here's a deep, tribal riddim I've nutted out last day and a half. Was pretty easy tbh, started with a beat, came up with the idea for a heavy tom tune and the idea grew immediately to give birth to what you hear here. Track is complete, am after people with a good ear who can tell me where I've gone wrong in the mixdown. Cheers!

Hey all,

LONG time no DSF, I flipped ISP's and the IP it assigned me was apparently banned for trolling, so I've been hacking around trying to get back in. Anyhows, I've missed this thread! So, without further ado:

@gaol1: "NewWIPUpdate" Like the little Peter Hawking samples. Your percussion pattern is fine, it needs a little attention, mainly the snare. The synth work is not bad, I'm not a huge fan of bro-step/Circus lead bass noises though, but that's a personal preference. I'd try effecting the speech sample just a bit, delay, reverb or similar.

@glue-reed : "Shinji (WIP)" Like the shuffling hats, the distorted synth line is nice too, especially the portamento. Your kick needs a little more punch, and I'd suggest tuning that snare just a little. After the 2nd breakdown like the additional percussion elements, although you might want to introduce them a little earlier, and perhaps add a higher lead line over the original bassline.

@dougriley : "Fedi" Nice intro sounds! Digging those big time. Drop is unexpected, nice and moody and gets right down to business. Kick might be a littttttle too hot, but it punches nicely. On the snare, you might want to layer some white noise or similar and gate it, with a bit of a hall reverb to make it really "splash". Bassline is good, as are incidentals. Good track!

@budspencertron : "Come On Let's Work" CHUNK! That bass sound is dutty! Like the sounds and general vibe of this track. The only thing I'm not picking up much on is a sub. Otherwise, like!

@mthfnk : "New Wave" Very interesting mix of styles, and percussion styles. Sounds really fresh and different. Like the guitars, nice and resonant and full on the 1/2 drop tease is nice too....then it stops, but I can guess it's going to hit heavy. Very interesting!

With that, here's something new from me, it's not quite finished, and I'm still futzing with the mixdown and some of the structure, but feedback would be appreciated (either here, or on Soundcloud)

Cheers

Rich

thanks mate was just my signature tune though but i realized the sub thing just after you mentioned it haha i had a listen at my wav there is a sub but its uncomfortable deep like under 40 hertz maybe i should double it someday to see how it aflects the mix thanks for tip :W:

your tune is really nice i mentioned it some time ago that i think you are really top level has a nice distance old emalkay feel i would love maybe a tiny bit more punchy bassdrum like a 100 hertz one so the sub can go without interfearing with it but it has stil punch maybe add a more broken part later so the listener has some loudness breaks like bass rises until the snare hits silence than with the bassdrum again like 4 bars long and maybe try to double the stab melody with a higher one or a more stereo field one.
but really nice tune

drums are pretty good , dark dnb doesn't have to be so 'boring' (sorry for putting it that way)

maybe this will inspire you

@FluidMoShun

Well let me start off that i came here for advice myself, so i wont be going knees deep in mixing techniques, but what i am hearing in your 2nd track (first was deleted) that the drums are pretty nice, followed some nice rythms and didnt become to boring in my eyes. problem i am heaving is the sound of the whole being a little bit empty, and the main reason is, ithink because the odd volume levels you are having with the drums compared to the chopped vocals. it also misses some continuity but i think with the correct volumes that would be a lot better. (excuse my english, it is pretty whack)

Feedback for others:
@sprayyypaint Nice intro, perc is cool. I really like the bass and the synths. The vocal chops are nice too, really not much else to say - nice track man!
@subfect Nice toms/hand drums on the intro - the vox are a really nice touch. Listening on headphones so take my mix advice as potentially wrong, but everything is sounding good, nothing is majorly out that I can hear - perc is nice and clear, as are the pads and bass. Really nice track, good job.
@deafblindmusic The intro reminds me of a Noisia track, as does the bass. Both sounding great man. I only really have one suggestion - maybe pan around your hats, and maybe add some metallic shakers?

Did some more on the WIP I posted above, the mixing is pretty shit atm and it's no where near finished but:
Soundcloud

Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems.

Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated :)

Thanks. :W:

Good input guys, definitely agree on the loudness break, and for the kick I kept backing it off because it was too stomping, think I overcooked it :P I'll take a look at those suggestions.

Cheers

Oh no, I just hate my track being the last on a page, it often gets ignored. Sorry.

Deafblindmusic - Yeah man really liking this, sounds really dark but you havnt got stuck in all that reverb like some people. Sounds really nice though. Maybe bring out the kick and snare more just give it that motion. I really like that hoover kidna sound aswell sounds really nice :) But yeah man cant really say much its a good tune haha.

Subfect - Yeah man this is nice :P Maybe use different samples for the toms, i like what theyre doing but they kinda seem a bit weak, mihgt just be me though. I do love the musical aspects though like your deep house chords are realllly nice haha i been trying to make these and cant get it so fair play for doing it so well :P The pad is really nice aswell gives the whole thing a nice atmopshere. The different snares you have are really nice aswell especially the reverb and stuff oyu have on them so i reckon bring these up in the mix a bit just so theyre mor noticable. The sub is nice aswell though ncie and deep and fills out the tune and gives it weight.

Gaol - Yeah man i like the aspects, i reckon the sub needs to have more of its own kidna solo part though rather than just playing like the one straight note. Or like put gaps in the sub line just so its not constantly going if you get me. And maybe turn down the sample or add some reverb or something just to make it bit less in your face if you get me cos its kinda cool but it takes over when its there so add some reverb and EQ a bit so its kidna in the background, but i like the tune mate keep going.

But yeah this is my new tune, a dark thing from me so would be sweet to get feedback :P

Thanks for the feedback Airfee, I left some on your WIP on your Soundcloud, but honestly this "Precious" track really caught my ear, love love love it. Very nice work.

RE: The kick/snare on Zero Point, I agree, I did some more EQ work on it last night and cleaned it up and got more punch from the snare particularly, still a bit of work to do on the kick.

Scy7he - its ok, I would add some sub bass to begin with ) the composition so far is good as well

AirFee - Cool idea, I would add some more sounds during the silent part so that it doesnt lose its presens, even though it has to quiet and feel like a pause, the still has to be going on something. Otherways than that its really good.

mthrfnk - http://soundcloud.com/mthrfnk/new-wave-wip2 - cool idea using the guitar sample, it lacks sub bass i think ) just try to repeat the root note of each guitar riff, thats what I would do

here is my tune
