@Cheeky - SHITS DEEP! def when the sub drops and the sub makes wub to my ears :h: tho personally i think the intro is a little long but 'trance' like. Maybe same vibe just add a little more or change up the pattern a bit ever so many bars to just add variety without losing that smooth vibe. SC followed

@Goal - Love the use of audio sample through out, love when artists do that and I love the "Robotic Yawn" @ 0.48 0.55 and 1.02 thought the second drop IMO i would use it once or twice like at the start of the drop's pattern/patterns and really like it be heard and let the rest take over again.

@Stranger Sounds - idk why you've been passed dude, it very well done and sounds nice to the ears. Good vibes and a nice flow really danceable. I'm not great on mixing yet myself so I can't really pass judgement on if that needs fixing (and what might that be) or not, keep at it man. SC followed

this is a new WIP I have with a buddy of mine who is a drummer so all drums where done by him, sounds and melody was mine. Choice of synth and drum sounds were shared. It short but i like it so far. Not mix properly either :u:

@Stranger_sounds I like it a lot. I just took a quick listen cause I hate getting skipped. I like the effects the vocals have. The percussion is really tight and nice too. I like the way you drop into the different parts of the songs. Im getting new carpet put into the upstairs of my house so there is extremely loud hammering right above me so this is the extent of my criticism for now haha.

Feedback for others:
@KrashOverRide Cool idea but the drums seem a bit forced and lifeless, try brightening them up (maybe switch up the samples) and adding some verb. The build needs more suspense, the drop and vocal is too sharp - try adding in a riser and some white noise sweeps. Basses sound quite cool, just nail the mixing. Good job :W:
@Gaol Nice intro - sample are awsm. Bass is pretty heavy but I feel overall you need more - add some hats/shakers etc, liven everything up, maybe even add a high leadline. Cool idea overall, I really like the samples.
@Cheeky Deep stuff man, perc is nice. Pads are nice too. I don't really have any suggestions ;-)
@Living_Tragedy Nice chord progression to open, the "complextro" bits are cool, you'v egot some nice ideas but your percussion needs livening up to really drive the track forward - try adding some shakers and more hats to fill out your sound. Good job man.

New chilled track from me:
Soundcloud

Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems.
Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated :)

Thanks. :W:

@Cheeky - This shit is heavy brother, nice work!

@Goal - Love the use of audio sample in that man! Not too fond of the drums.

@Stranger Sounds - Good vibes, sounds nice to the ears, keep it up brother!

Just an intro wip, anyone got any tips for the into and the style of bass that should be used?

@revival : Like the first drop, the vocoded speech is very nice (what plug you using incidentally?). My only real critique, the snare is punchy and everything, but it's lacking some crispness. It could be the overall brickwall limiting killing the top end though. I can see this going off in a hyped up club though. Bass is solid and weighty too.

@familiartea : LOL, nice American Psycho sample. I have a nicely cleaned up version of that if you like (lots of sample inversion to remove pretty much all the background ambience). So, from an arrangement perspective it kinda just "Starts", it doesn't introduce beats bit by bit, and build the tension slowly. Because that speech sample itself is so evocative, honestly I'd just leave it in the clear and introduce bass elements and other atmospheric bits to bring it up to head, then on the first drop - do that, + more. From a production/engineering perspective, your perc is very dusty and lacks enough top end crispness. Honestly, I think that's half the battle right there, just getting that right will dictate how the rest of the track comes together. Anyways, keep at it, ping me a DM if you want that cleaned up sample.

@hoborg : Lovely intro, very quirky. In fact, kinda nutty. The tom rolls need some bass punch under them to give more punctuation to the rhymes (the idea is good, just needs more dynamics to add to it). First drop, interesting, it's almost like a totally different track (not seeing how it fits with the initial rhymes, but that might be the sample pack). Takes off in an interesting direction. The sub might be slightly too low for me. Your background percussion needs some quantising (especially the rolls). Your kick and snare are fine from an EQ perspective, but if I were you I'd run your percussion buss through a compressor and use some parallel compression to really punch up the perc (check out Variety Of Sound "Density", it has an in-built New York style parallel compression setting). Very interesting track nevertheless.

@KrashOverRide : That granular synth line is interesting, I'd look at perhaps some automation other than the LFO to bring out the interest in it, percussion kit is interesting and different from the usual stuff you hear. Your kick needs some EQ love, as does the snare (100hz peak for kick, 200hz peak for snare) and perhaps some additional compression. The lead line that comes in around 1:30 is a bit much, I think you need to drop something else out to give that space to do its thing.

@mthrfnk : All, and I mean ALL of the dynamics have been squashed out of that snare. I'd look at changing it. The lead line is almost house/trance, which I kinda like, builds with a nice energy to rising to the drop. Which is great - the panning lead line pans a little too far for my liking, I would look at panning it less, and using a triangular pan pattern, so it bounces from R -> L -> R -> L as oppose to R -> L -> L -> R (if that makes sense). Track has great energy. Again, percussion needs EQ love, it's way down in the mix, buried under all that mid-bass. I'd seriously notch out some room to let your perc shine through.

@sub_lox : Liking the intro on this, like the perc, nice and rattly, little off-beat sine stab noises are nice too. Reminds me of "Black Hawk Down" by Milo (google it, from way back, but it rocked the house). Distorted bass drops nice, ride is a nice touch, great build up with the tom rolls. Nice track from what I've heard so far.

@Triphosphate : I guess the moral is, back up, repeatedly on external hardware ;) Liking the electro vibes, and the rises are nice. The drop is good, your snare is lost in the mid-bass, EQ it some room. And I'd look at compressing your mid-bass buss (hopefully you are grouping all your mid's to a single buss), and EQ'ing out around 300hz and 500hz with a narrow Q to cut some of the mud out of the sound. Kinda euphoric, keep going.

@acidrat : Your main off-the-beat stab is a great sound but it's too high in the mix. And you've got some ducking going on on the limiter, and I think it's that weird white noise sound you have in there that's causing the issue. I'd look to brighten up your hats some, and the snares too. First drop sound is nice, pattern is nice, builds energy initially but then it kinda loses momentum. Might want to introduce something in addition and perhaps delay bringing the percussion back in till you have all the elements in place.

@strangersounds : First impressions, really nice and clean sounding, tight percussion, nice choice of sounds. I am a little rusty on my techno but this reminds me of the recent output from Sleeper, nothing to add, nice danceable track. The bassline, mayyyy need looking at, I think there's some alternative key options in there you could explore that would make it more interesting (could be the sound too).

Aight, I'm spent. Here's my latest, this is a clip of the overall track, it's not finished but would like whatever comments you want to throw my way, either on here or on Soundcloud.

Cheers,

@sub_lox intense intro, reminds me of a thriller movie, the whole rush/chase vibe to it. I enjoyed it, maybe some glitchy artifacts and filtered sounds placed randomly throughout your intro to create more interesting and complex arrangements, I like the filtered hardcore kick youve included, the drumroll build up is dope, You should add a reese bass or something building and pitching up as you build that final part up. but that is only my suggestion, dont need to take it :p everything is sounding nice so far, just needs more varients to create more interest.

@Triphosphate: Very nice intro, I like your videogame vibe you got going on, I personally feel the melody and progression could be a little more affective, but thats the only first 32bars, the second part where the sub comes in is dope!, perhaps add more fx and risers and automation to your melodies to create a more hype build up, it's good but could have maybe just a little more too create a cooler build. I am personally not a fan of the drop tbh, could maybe uses better transitions and glue between each bass segment, but it still sounds nice, just personally I feel it doesn't hold much interest as far as 'color' and bass textures are concerned but thats my imo. the kick can also be a little cleaner and some equing of everything, some parts sound too warm and slightly muddy, but AMAZING second drop, I really like that.

@AcidRat not a fan of the clap/snare, it could use some more equing and compression, perhaps adding a gated white noise everytime it hits to create a more crisper snare. the bass is decent, but sounds very dated, very basic or something you'd hear in 2006, could use better patches in my opinion. try sidechaining your bass a bit to your kick and snare because your snare drowns in the overpowering bass, I personally don't find the drop interesting but I totally get that everyone has personal preferences , the chords and melody is okay too but like I said before, sounds very washed up and something youd hear 4 years+ ago. synthesis has dramatically evolved since. overall a decent track mate

@stranger_sounds clean your kick. the cowbells need tiny gain reduction, the intro is decent, nothing new or interesting though, i like your minimal vibe once the chords come in. Your bass either doesnt sound in key or needs a different arrangement imo, i personally dont find an interesting groove with the bass but I assume your still early in production? Try add more melodies to your mix friend

@Gaol nothing personal but i loled at the intro, but once your chords and keys came in I took it more serious, you should try adding a melody or arppegiator with your yoi at the start to avoid a lame intro, i personally felt it wasn't a good way to have an intro but thats my imo bro, i like your late night vibe though, it has a nice soft feel to it and I love it, try add bass and more sounds to compliment your dreamy mix.

@Cthulhu interesting intro man, I like it. your rwaaarrr bass patch needs a little cleaning imo though either by equing or the synth itself, same for the similiar patch that comes in the next segment, everything else is very robotic and interesting, maybe glitchy melodic patterns and feedback patterns will create an even more evolving style, not sure why the drop sounds a bit lower near the end unless you did that for the sample, try keeping your mix consistent by checking your rms meter and db meter

@Living_Tragedy nice intro, very mainroom trance/house, get a new clap though bro, it's so 10 years+ ago man lol. I love your synths though

@living tragedy- reminds me of playing an rpg game lol, the mood it sets, i like it. maybe needs more sounds and melodies to create more variation and intersting in your mix, overall a nice chill yet heavy song, I love it, your mixdown is clean :)

@stranger sound, holy shit, nice second song, keep it the way it is, its so interesting and new, please finish asap

@KrashOverRide your song is alright mate, it's lacking interesting textures and arrangements imo, the kick and snare needs cleaning, maybe a new hi hat would better suit this song too, perhaps take it easy on that secondary kick thats adding to the groovy, it gets annoying after awhile

@mthrfnk very nice itnro man, I love the vibe of this, your mixdown is nice! Im in love with your reversed melodies, that's personally one of my most favorite musical ideas to apply, please create more and finish asap man

@ZankUSA decent intro man, is this song completely mono? it sounds like it lacks width and personally feel you should add more before wasting your time replying to multiples for a 30 second - sample imo lol

@deafblindmusic cool intro, very middle eastern vibe, personally not my type of dubstep but you're definitely onto something with this

this sample was in the early stages of my production and have cleaned it up and made it more tighter but I want to ask what yall think of the bass arrangement at least? and what needs some changing?

@swishadub & @bassf4ce. The rules are, comment on at least 3 other peoples work before submitting your own. You're not going to get much feedback till you do that.

@ Bassf4ce - Wubs are nice :D 8 bit distortion kinda thing going on reminds me of like a mario level or something XD What you using to produce? some basslines are a bit off beat, drums are a bit repetitive, using loops? Best of luck mate! take a bit more time and patience and try listening it through different speakers, headphones etc. also your standard laptop/pc speakers and iPod headphones and you will realise some bits are a bit too loud and drowning the rest of the sounds out. all in all, keep it up and keep working hard at it. or take what you like from this and use it on something new.

@ Swishadub - Nice chilled asian thing going on here. definitely a nice sense of creativity. Bass line sounds a bit squishy and bitty. I like the scratching sounds and the downwards arpegiation too but the squishyness is a bit overwhelming ! like kinda swamps everything else out. Nice theme going on here tho and i like what you done, when you go into double time (like the DnB beat) i think it would be more interesting to make it sound a bit more jungle drum n bass, sounds a bit too minimal for an effective break. Keep up the good work though!

@ MassAphekt Sorry not to be the guy that whines about stuff, but this isn't dubstep XD you done an okay job though. i'm not really into this skrillex drum step. i think the housey stuff and 100bpm stuff skrillex does is okay, but this genre of music really doesn't appeal to me. But hey, maybe there's not a very welcoming place such as dubstepforum to post your latest WIP on drumstep, so you choose to post it here. I don't know if thats right or wrong. I just don''t think you will get such good criticism. And im sure you can make / have made much better dubstep :D anyway, peace out and good luck!

Here is my latest WIP!!! Sorry its so gawd dam long, the intro and first drop kinda sucks, but hold tight! i think you might like it, its quite dark and deep and minimal to some extent. Perfect for these rainy british summers XD

@1stfiest Your track was really minimal. I like the bass at around 2:20 a lot. Also the drums sound mixed quite well. The track got a little bit repetitive, and could probably use some more arranging and automation to keep things interesting. Maybe work a bit on your kick also, it sounds drowned out in some places, almost like there is a filter on the kick that is sweeping out all the frequencies that keep it holding everything else together in the mix. Also I know that you might be going for minimalism, but it does sound like that track could use some more synth sounds or atmospheric sounds every once in a while. Good job on making something unique. =]

@Triphosphate Nice track man. To me it sounds like your mixing skills are your strongpoint. Everything sounded great to me. I especially LOVE the bassline sound you started the drop with. I think the only thing you could use work on is molding those basses together a bit better and maybe bringing those synth/lead lines up in the mix a bit more (the ones that are sequenced in your bassline). Other than that, things sounded good overall.

@mthrfnk The track you posted is awesome. I definitely like the glitchy feel, and that piano sounds very nice. Your mix sounded great on my monitors. One thing that could use some work is the subbass. It sounded to me like it went out of tune at certain parts. Maybe go and double check the sub bass and make sure there aren't any automations or anything making the pitch go out of tune. That was the only thing I could find that didn't sound great in the mix.

Anyways guys, I put about 3 days of work into this song, and I am planning on getting this song and about 6 others finished for a free EP release. The track is in my sig. I would really love some in depth feedback. =]

@altron

Heavy stuff. Great mix, really nothing I would change. I want to hear your others.

@ehbrums1

Great vibe from this track. All sounds work great together. Heavy, but chill. Maybe a change up with the lead if you want. Sounds great!

@1stfiest

Definitely a minimal sound. I'd add a little excitement throughout. I really like the bass at 2:47, you should run a variation of that. Song sounds sonically good. Just add something to it.

Messing around with some electro vibes. Just tossed those vocals in for flavor. How does it sound on other's systems? Cheers!

Soundcloud

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, i wasn't really aiming for a minimal song. But going for that dark simple ambient vibe so yeah i think i'll definitely add some more effects and pad/synth sounds and such. Nice to see that people are commenting on the sonic quality and mix quality. I wouldn't say that i have done the best job EQing but i really tried hard to work some good reverbs on this song. and unfortunately one of the drivers on my headphones is a little weak so i've refrained from doing any Panning whatsoever. I also got a bit too experimental with the kick drum, boosting frequencies well over 1k to give it a bolder, fatter tone, but tbh i think it mit've just ruined the song. anyway i thing some of you quite like the song. so im definitely gonna work on it some more soon!

Heres some feedback for my peers :)

@ Altron really nice soundscape here. THe sub hits pretty hard. I'm not sure if theres a little too much reverb on the vocals, or not enough reverb on the drums. synth and basslines are really spot on though. Nice use of creativity and just sounds really nice really. The 2nd drop is pretty awesome too. Makes the song alot less repetitive. Great Job! :W:

@ Jetpack Not too big on the intro but hits pretty hard at around 50 secs! not a big fan of electro i much prefer house and techno tbh. gets a little repetitive by about 1:30, might wanna mix up the drums, maybe add some crashes or different cymbals. I'd also recommend using a pitch shifter to put them vocals in tune. Umm overall, nice use of strings, nice to try something different too i guess. I often learn new things to add to my dubs when experimenting with music at 120 bpm and 100 bpm. So it's not a bad idea. Just try and maybe use some filters and different modulation effects so it doesn't sound so repetitive.

@1stfiest

Although it is a long WIP (lol) it is very chill and I can dig on it. I think the mixdown sounds good man and the track flows pretty nice. I don't usually listen to minimal type stuff like this alot but from what you have made I don't mind it at all. Good work, keep it coming! :D

@ehbrums1

I really like that reggae feel mon :D Also the drums are pretty sick throughout the entire thing. I would definitely like to hear this with some vocals added and make some change ups but all in all.. solid shit you have going here man :)

@Altron

Very nice synths and melodies man I love that shit.. And those vocals are boss! It also has a chill but deep vibe which I am really into, I think you have done a very good job on this track, the drops are sick as well.. The song in a whole has a very nice flow which is a must for people to keep listening!! :D

My latest WIP is called "Cyber Police" and it's based on the youtube video of Jessie Slaughter and her dad, aka "I backtraced it" or "You Dun Goofed" whatever you want to call it.. haha anyways its more of an electro house tune rather than dubstep but I still wanted to share it with you guys so if you have some time feedback would be much appreciated and I will always return the feedback :D Hope you like it!!
