Outlook was big. had to come back and go straight away working so good to be back in my own bed.
Thought we found this amazing camping spot in the shade then two days later they turned on the 24/7 generator . For someone reason loads of peeps from round there were from west yorks so that made up for it.
Thursday
Rodigan - was good but I wish he would play some different tunes. man plays the same things every single time, also tells the same stories which are great at first but quickly get boring.
GDC and iration were standardly good.
Jamie XX and Benji B were sick. I was so blazed watching it and it was just perfect to sway to at the back.
Friday
Distance v Tunnidge - went to watch on my own and it was well worth it. Big set.
only saw a bit of silkie and quest but it was great.
Loefah was RIDICULOUS. Probably the best set I have seen in terms of number of big classics played, like evryone has said it is a shame the sound was so shit.
DMZ - was good but I am not a big fan of Cokis wobblers so they were a bit annoying. Hearing that lovin you remix of Cokis live was . The crowd was pretty blaggin as well. Everyone was constantly on the move and consequently knockin into you, one guy literally walked past me and my mate ten times! Swear he was just going to the front and then turning around lol.
Sat
went to the moat mostly which a really good stage. just looked amazing. Oneman killed it there. Loefah was good too.
Iration at mungos was great.
Sun
Mosca and then bok bok and l-vis were really good.
Pearson sound also killed it after a slow start. probably the best mixing I saw.
Overall it was a great festival but I doubt i will go again. After going in 2010 it was just annoying to see basically the same amount of facilities on the campsite for basically double the people. Although we mostly managed to avoid the wobble this will clearly increase as more people come because that is where the numbers are. Far far too many hipsters already.
btw can anyone help me identify this tune I kept hearing at outlook. Has loads of pipes in it I think. Was getting dropped by all the swamp 81 style dj's. Think I had heard it before tbh but just got to like it out there.
Sooo...now that I've been back a while, I thought I'd write a slightly longer review of the festival with some pics.
Flew into Trieste without a hitch, Ryanair actually had enough check-in counters open for once. Plane got there a bit late, so everyone pretty much just collected their luggage and ran off to the coach waiting place. Didn't have to rush really, turns out there were 4 coaches and only 2 had arrived. I was gonna be on the 4th. Skip to 90 minutes later, finally get on the coach after some kerfuffle as I'd forgotten to bring my ticket. Not sure why it was so big a deal since they had my name, and I had ID as well payment card. Fortunately, I managed to dig out the order email so managed to avoid having to pay for the ride again and then faffing about with customer service to get a refund. Coz we know how well that would go.
Got there 2.5 hours later, non-stop. Got wristband in record time, thought "Wow, they really are organised this year". Then proceeded to queue for 1.5 hours for my accom. Queue wasn't long but seemed like there were lots of numpties running in and out of the portakabin and generally driving the accom people insane. Got to the front of the queue, Stephanie (accom lady) recognised my name as I was her "special case" and we had a good chat/laugh. Sorted me out very quickly despite there being an over-excited teenager bouncing around the office.
Got into a taxi and drove. And drove. And drove. And drove. Seriously thought I was gonna get mugged and my body would turn up 2 years later. Finally pull up at a tennis club miles away. Person in charge was a nice guy, offered to drive me back to the campsite for food. After I decided not to bother, he grilled up some stuff from his BBQ for me. Awesome.
Next day, went for a wander around Pula. Very much recommended if you haven't been before. Came back in the evening to meet my roommate and grab some food. Managed to get back into the campsite with my multiple wristbands, woohoo! My roommate turned out to be one of the guys running the dub cutting sessions. Bonus! Nice guy too! Had a wander around, atmosphere was pretty good already.
First day of the festival, I decided to sit out the start of the music away from the crowd. Wandered in in the evening to catch Cyrus' set but got a text saying he was still on his way on the bus. Bummer. Went over to check out Dave Roddigan on the main stage, which was still quite uncrowded. Had a stupendously good time there for the next hour or so, his enthusiasm was sooooo infectious! Hadn't realised how many people had crammed up behind me till I left. Reckon there were more people there than the whole of Outlook last year. Then headed up to Mungo's for the Maffi live set with Solo Banton, followed by Disrupt with loads of people. That was well good! After that it was a bit of a blur but I think I stumbled over to Iration Steppahs for a bit, then some Kode9 before heading back to Mungo's for Heatwave and Mungo's. Thought we'd catch a bit of Terror Danjah but found the stage pretty much deserted and the set wasn't particularly good either. Heard later that something had gone wrong with the setup and Terror Danjah was not a happy bunny.
Second day kicked off in style with the Black Box boat party with T_! on the decks. It was stupidly hot and most people shuffled back and forth between the deck and shade. Biome played an amazingly deep set, the soundsystem was sooooooo good. Spent most of the party chatting away to Citizen who was ninjastalking ninjas.
After that, grabbed a quick bite and went on to the Hotflush boat party! Really enjoyed Roska's set and the start of Scuba's set, but there's only so much of that techno sound that I can take before getting a bit bored. On the plus side, I had the company of a group of mates and the sunset was spectacular:
After that it was straight on to Silkie vs Quest, very enjoyable set! Was happy that Loefah decided to play old school stuff for his DMZ set. Unfortunately, the crowd was horribly aggy. Some guy actually tried to pick a fight with me during the set, saying he'd beat me up if I shoved him again. Given that I had been shoved into him, and that he'd trod on my foot and shoved me out of the way when he came to collect his bag from his mate, I stood my ground and there was a bit of a standoff until his mates separated us. I made my way further front, where there were even more muscleheads high on attitude, MD or ket. It was seriously not fun towards the front when Mala and Coki started. Made my way out of the senseless carnage and stood at the back waiting for Goth-Trad and Vivek to start. No, not every single Coki track needs a fricking reload. Breathed a sigh of relieve when Goth-Trad and Vivek finally came on and went on to play a complete stomper of a set! Might've been even better than the DMZ 6th birthday set!
Saturday was a pretty good day, starting with Unlikely at the Ballcourt with a whole bunch of ninjas. After that we wandered over to the Hessle Audio vs Swamp 81 soundclash. At one point, I thought it was Oneman vs Hessle Audio Headed down to the beach to meet up with some ninjas, took a break, then came back for Dubloke in the dungeon. Pretty decent set and I'm pretty sure he dropped a Midnight Request Line remix at some point. Sean, what was that last tune you played again? It was buklash! (that looks weird spelt like that)
Caught a bit of Space Dimension Controller, then went back to the dungeon for T_!!!! Probably one of the best sets of the festival for me! 3 decks with a 4th going at one point! OMG!!! Saw a bit of DJ Madd, Kyle Hall and Boddika then called it a night.
Sunday was the best day of the festival! Kicked it off with the Tectonic Boat Party which delivered pure jokes and good music! Juakali taking the piss out of Headhunter/Addison Groove/Tony nonstop during his set Passing the bottle of scotch round then going "Waitaminute! I want it back!" Sooooo many good moments! Pinch kicked off the party in style, Jack Sparrow dropped some awesomeness, Tony played a good set, Distance/Cyrus rounded it off with a brilliant set! Here's a little jokes video of Cyrus' set:
I was pretty much ready for the festival to end there coz the vibes were so good. But went on to catch Congo Natty vs Lion Dub soundclash, Resonators, Phaeleh, Firehouse Sound, Horace Andy, Johnny Clarke, Channel One and Jah Shaka. All top notch but was really happy to have finally caught Phaeleh's set after failing to for 3 years. Pretty special set too to close off the beach party, finishing with Afterglow.
All in, it was a pretty decent festival bar the aggy crowd at DMZ. There were a boatload of pretty stupid people around (not ignorant or inexperience, but just plain stupid), lack of care towards the environment/location, too much attitude, and lot of people who probably would've been better off in the meatmarkets of Ibiza or whatever since they were just mostly after vag or cock. The vibe was definitely nothing compared to last year but it wasn't really unexpected. I'm not likely to be going for a 5th year unless something truly special happens or I manage to wangle a guest pass or I get in just for the Tectonic boat.
Out to everyone I met this year, it was really fun catching up and chatting with you. Especially out to duttyswitch, wolf89 and the Lost in Italy crew! It was stressful but the company was good!

Disapointments: Digital Mytikz. Really poor set, sound system was a bit rubbish. Kromestar was just trash. Cyrus not coming to his set? Not sure what happened there. The amount of litter sucked, the queues for the loos and showers. The state of the toilets once the Sunshine buses arrived. Not seeing anyone from DSF! Minus Fassyman but only because we met and didn't even know who each other was on DSF.
Overall, better than last year. Not sure if we are going again next year but reckon we probably will. Croatia, Croatia!!
was you not on the swamp81 boat ant? i'm still in limbo about next year

T_! wrote:just before the video comes out... that girl who climbed the support stacks on the dock stage on the DMZ night on Friday isn't anyones mate is she? Security spent nuff time trying to get her down.... i had to help mwahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
that girl was a fucking idiot. Ruined partof DMZ coz i was sure she was gonna fall and proper hurt herself. Felt well sorry for the security guard, if they have to deal with stuff like that I almost understand why they all acted liked tnucs
This was proper funny! Everyone was laughing but she didn't realise it was at her, not with her.
belalala wrote:dubloke, i got some footage of you during your set in the dungeon! will defo include it in the compilation i'm putting together, will post it here. good work on the mixing btw, left distance vs icicle early to come catch it and didn't regret it!
you legend, nice one!! would love to see the footage a little annoyed there were a couple dodgy mixes in there but oh well, cant win them all

lol I owe you an apology, fucking slaughtered after my set! dont even know how i got that drunk, wasnt feeling too bad during the set but sitting at that table and it all went down hill i vaguely remember talking about moist bread and dry cakes good man for helping bring booglash back
Had a good time, probably not as good as last year, but that wass mainly down to the vibes and how packed the campsite was. If i go again next year, i'm getting a hostel or an apartment - after having such a good time camping last year i thought i'd do it again, was the worst decision ever....... so many twats.
DMZ night was sick, but as people mentioned were some aggy people near the front. Some idiot basically forced himself between me and my mate at the front bar, when there was absolutely no room. He held the bar from behind us for about 5 - 10 mins, then when a coki wobbler came on everyone went mad and he squeezed in crushing me on the bar. I said to him that i was all up for skanking hard, but that he was crushing me to which he said. "Mate fuck off, i work here, if you can't handle it then fuck off".. work there? cause you volunteered doesn't give you any special right to be a prick.
Went on black box, deep medi, and tectonic boat parties. Black box was sick, free tee (which i lost in dam ) and caught Box clever 003 when thinking threw it out . It's been battered on the way back though, and the sleeve is fucked, need to play it still to see if its ok!... Wasn't on the deep medi one at first, but my mate got robbed and was pissed off, so sold it to me in exchange for buying him a lilo. Had a sick time, but came off cramping hard on the way back to campsite and all my mates had already gone to the fort, so didn't even make it out saturday night . Had it out till 6am on sunday to make up for it!
Overall had a good time, debating making the return in 2012. We spoke to some of the organisers on the way back though, when we were stuck in venice marco polo for fucking 13 hours. They said they want to get all english security/police in next year not the croatians, who are all corrupt as fuck! This would be better, but even so if the festival increases its capacity again, I won't be coming.
Safe to all the sound people i met!

MATE.... i have PRIME footage of you raving front row at quest vs silkie friday night... will upload, it's among the best!
@dubloke, upon review, seems i was indeed mistaken, 'nother tune that drunken bela remembered as a mrl remix
haha sweeeet, look forward to seeing it! Think i'll be on quite a few vids from that night, everytime a camera went past it stopped on me for a minute. Was gonna wear it all weekend, but decided after wed/thurs/fri that I couldn't hack it anymore... just too hot

My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.
