@Inmate Read the rules buddy.
@ZankUSA I like the sample used and the intro pads nice and dark!, Everything works well but the mid bass is a bit too squeeky for me I'm not really into using Mid bass much unless it is of the dungeony sort. besides that I like all the levels sit well and everything molds
@Subfect Intro is beautiful all the pads and instruments work so well and gives it that deep eastern vibe that I love. I love the way it rolls in the sub is perfect all the drums work aswell I'm a fan of the snare I love a good ol' RS. Will be following !
My latest project, been working few hours on this today but I'm a bit stuck for ideas on filling up the spectrum (Keeping things too minimal as usual) any feedback appreciated!!

Re: point out how flat/amature this track sounds [please]
wanted to say thanks to everyone that posted advice and criticism, from now on i'll post tracks in the WIP thread. Haven't been on this forum lately and haven't been on soundcloud that much, i really appreciate the comments and advice
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@InTheCrowd I like that track a lot and can't wait to listen when it's finished. I would just switch up the drum pattern a bit more often, I think you have the same kick placement throughout the entire song. The bass is really good though.
@ExileUK The vocal sample your using adds a great vibe and I like the bass.
@Inmate I like the vocal sample you used adds a lot of rhythm to the track.
Okay, just started working on this tonight. It's not as good as anything you guys have posted but I'm pretty proud of it so far. It's completely unmixed and mastered of course...
Soundcloud
The drums need a lot of work.

Re: point out how flat/amature this track sounds [please]
There was no reason to have deleted that. Aside obviously from being highly repetitive (as a WIP may be)... sounded good to me.

Re: point out how flat/amature this track sounds [please]
na i deleted my entire project folder. I sort of like it though, i feel like my sound has developed a great deal by doing so
really wish i wrote down the setting on that synth though...

@twilight Not good with this style of music but maybe more sub bass and obviously mixdowns. You're drums already sound better than any of mine.
@Inmate Like the drums in the intro. Nice vibe to it. Obviously needs the mixdown and maybe a few more synths or a change up in some way half way through it, kinda gets a bit samey. Pretty nice track.
@ZankUSA Nice bass again. I think it needs more buildup to the drop though and that bass needs a heavier sub. Keep working on that.
I think this sounds a but too much like Flux Pavillion to get away with but I thought I'd get opinions first. Very little mixdown and apologies for the volume level.

@ twilight: sounds good - the sound you are using for the snare seems a bit out of place but the kick sounds fine. It could use a bit of variation towards the end.
@InTheCrowd good job on the drum sounds. The bass is really tight, sounds great. I really like the part that comes in around the 1min mark, cant tell if it is vocals or a synth.
@Inmate: Really like the rhythm of the track. It sounds like it could use a bit more sub but im listening on headphones.
@ Living_Tragedy It does sound a bit like flux but it the bass sounds pretty tight none the less. The drums fit really well with the bass.
Here is mine, just a warning it is a bit fast at 170 bpm. It is a remix of a song from the Adventure Time cartoon. I mixed it on headphones so im a bit worried the sub bass might be out of control.

Can you only post soundcloud tracks here?
Iv had rather bad experience with soundcloud and all my tracks seams to get glitches/artifects when uploaded to soundcloud.

Already given feedback to folks, but hey why not more
@twilight: Sounds okay so far, I think that lead is begging for some kind of reverb/resonator on it. Or a delay. Basically just give it a sense of space.
@Living_Tragedy: why not just change the rhythm and melody a bit? That bass sounds great, if it wasn't following the melody and rhythm of Got 2 Know almost exactly I wouldn't consider it a flux pavillion ripoff.. I would just think it had good bass
@inthecrowd: What about more low end on that kick.. Sounds kind of weak without the 70hz thump. Layer a bass drum and eq it to fit with the one you have?
Here's my tune.. Definitely a different production for me.. It came out of a desire to collaborate with one of my oldest friends who is an amazing vocalist and not really having any tunes that fit the bill. It's my first attempt at mixing melodic vocals into a track, so let me know how the mix sounds.. Don't give me an easy break

@kaimera: the vocal sounds like very thin when the bass comes in, maybe try doubling them up or something. also i think you'll need use a de-esser on the vocal
@npcompl33t: i like the groove of this, but personally i think your drums could use some more work especially the snare. other than that its ok, plus i like adventure time
@Living_Tragedy: this sound like a build up that Flux would do, keep working on it
ok guys here is a track i been cooking up. would like some opinion on it. also if anyone could give me tips on how to have the kick and snare cut through the track that would be awesome

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Well, i never have any problems when i convert them myself and listen to them as mp3. its only something that happens when uploading to soundcloud weirdly enough.subfect wrote:This is a result of actually a bad mixdownGogorian wrote:Can you only post soundcloud tracks here?

Gogoriancompression in mp3s can create some interesting phasing and other artifacts. Basically, the better your mixdown - the clearer your tune will be on soundcloud
And iv tried uploading a lot of different types of quality and formats to soundcloud and always get some annoying glitch/artifects on the tracks

And as iv heard everything gets converted down to 128kbps whatever you upload to soundcloud, but if it only were a simple conversion this wouldn't happen, so soundcloud obviously have some kind of filter that messes it up.
Just as a note, i use Ableton when makeing my tracks.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
subfect - nice dreamy, chilled tune.
My biggest gripe is with the clap/snare that seems to cut through a bit much.
It`s a bit loud and piercing for me.
Personal opinion though.
Nice percussion work as well.
Inmate - that`s not bad at all.
You have some very interesting, gritty sounds.
The mixdown sounds fairly solid, nothing stands out as bad.
I`d change the percussion a bit in the 2nd section to give it more movement.
Possibly change the idea to more of a shuffled hit.
Good work.
InTheCrowd - starting out sounding pretty good.
Nice clear hits, good percussion work.
The background atmosphere is good when it comes in.
Need more of that imo.
I can`t see how it develops but I would think a good snare line will really add some great character to the tune.
Maybe a good growl bass wouldn`t hurt either, here and there.
Here's one that I`ve worked on.
For some reason it`s not getting plays and I`m not receiving any feedback on it.
I`m looking for anything constructive, positive or negative.

@kaimera
I love the feel of this track. The build up was spot on, at the climatic bits were really fitting. I feel like the kick, the snare, and the hats really add to the track without being overpowering. Everything just mellows out perfectly for me. No suggestions from me other than keep up the good work.
@thelastthing
Your kick and snare really get lost behind your synths. You should try cutting out frequencies that don't really come through. Lower a bit of the sounds, and get some more punch on your kick, either by eqing or layering it. Because of the current mixdown, it's hard to feel the climatic bits, so just work on cleaning that up. Good work so far.
@Electric_Head
The vibe man, it's there. My only real criticism with the track is that it's a bit repetitive. Throw in some gradual progressions with different synths, and fx to make it more interesting. You've got something really nice though, and I'd love to hear the finished product.
@GuitarJon
The synths in the track feel a bit dry, and the build up could use some more, well, build up. Great variation of synths, and the vocals are a nice touch. It wouldn't hurt for the kick to be louder, in my opinion. I look forward to hearing more.
---
Well, I'm back again with a new "track". This one, I think, I might actually finish. A couple of the synths after the drop could use a bit of work. I don't feel they particularly meld with the rest, but I've gotten mixed views on it. I've mastered it to the best of my abilities (not much), and my mix down is pretty decent, but I suppose only as decent as my broken headset will allow. Let me know what y'all think about it.

@ Inthecrowd – I like what you have so far a lot. If you don’t mind me asking how did you make that deadmau5-style white noise fx at about :20 - :22? Constructive feedback…. The drums could be way more meaty, they don’t hit as hard as I would like.
@ twilight – you have a solid foundation for a track. There just needs to be way more going on to give it more energy. I would love to hear some crunchy shaker or hi hit on the eighth notes or some other kind of percussion to breathe some life into the track. But what you have is a good start.
@ livingtragedy – damn you could have fooled me and said that was an unmastered flux track. Everything is pretty spot on but I think your snare could use a little more presence in the mix… either by sidechaining or just boosting the levels, not really sure. Would maybe like to hear some more percussive elements to give it more groove. Really like this though and would like to hear the final mix
Cranked this WIP out in a couple hours today, very inspired by this future garage sound I’m hearing a lot of lately. Let me know what you guys think.

thelastthing: tone it down a little! intro sounds awesome, build is cool, but i was completely overwhelmed by the distorted modern talking section... your mix needs to be heavily eq'd, which is why your kick and snares are almost nonexistent. keep it up man, structure is there...
electric head: atmosphere is effective in your build, everything sounds great. mix is on point, vibe is unique, diggin the vocal samples. my only suggestion is take a short break on the percussion here and there once the tune comes in or switch up the pattern slightly... might give it a little more character
mtl6: sounds good man! a really pleasant tune to listen to! first thing that came to mind was to bring out the release on the sub bass a little, sounds a little choppy. loving the percusion, nice work!
here's one i've been workin on
