Having never been to a Dad rock concert I wouldnt know but its just a laugh and pretty much confined to that night now that I think about it

Do you mean the key of the tunes? If different cords come together and clash then dissonance is created which is what I think you're talking about. I'm not trained in music theory so I don't know much about the whole key thing. Most of the time when I do a mix I just pick random tunes and hope for the best.
