pretty damn good with awesome animation

yeah this was sick
i thought it was alright... just felt really childish, and not in a good way either :?
Wow, just saw this on Friday with the wife and we both loved it.

Classic storytelling and characters, modern interpretations, bit of romance... can't ask for much more.
The importance of family as a unit; and in turn of humanity as such, really struck home.

Pretty sure I listed "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" many pages ago... same director.

eXistenZ - A slightly less confusing forefather to Inception. But (to me at least) it has a not as clear ending as Inception... This film helped shape me when I was a child, but upon second viewing it's clear that it's strengths have since been sucked up and spat out in more entertaining ways in several newer films. What is left seems dated and lacking in intensity.
Still, 5.5/10

Image
Lady in the Water - This never looked like it was going to be my cup of tea, but a good friend recommended it so watch it I did.
It centers around a lady (pictured above) who is from another realm of existence that happens to be found at the bottom of a communal swimming pool of an apartment complex. The janitor of said complex finds her and decides to help her in her quest to impart information to the right person in order to save mankind.
Hilarity did not ensue.
My friend's recommendations have lost their gravitas - 3/10

Image
Ghost Dog - I really liked this one. A relatively simplistic representation of the Hagakure but it's perfectly executed. This is clearly a homage to 'Le Samourai' but that shouldn't put you off watching it. Homage not remake.
It's very surreal in places (mob boss doing an impression of an elk) but, imo, this is just a representation of the often surreal nature of a warriors path.
(This film has been torn apart for samples, most notably in '7 Breaths' by Tunnage)
9/10

....not really sure what I just watched. 4/10
Does anyone know if 'Noriko's Dinner Table' will shed more light on it or is it just another big bowl of WTF?

The Thing

Loved it. Very atmospheric. Animatronics were believable.

The Dark Crystal

Watched this for the first time the other day.

Pretty good and easy to watch. Kinda like a Tolkein sort of story, with influences from folklore and magick with a lot of the art direction and visual style from the same guy who worked on Labyrinth.

Think they're planning a modern sequel which i think could actually turn out well.

Got vague memories of seeing The Dark Crystal years ago. Seemed to remember it being pretty good

Watched Catfish last night

I keep seeing Ironclad and thinking 'meh', might give it a whirl

recently I watched:

Inside Man - interesting thriller by Spike Lee, crap ending
X Men: First class - better than I expected
Tree of life - Flawed but amazing

Dark Crystal is a classic, i've got an ancient book with loads of concept artwork in it, really really good stuff.

Image

Watched Akira for the second time ever, on youtube of all places!

I highly reccomend it, soundtrack, storyline, everything hand-drawn it's incredible.
