Bang on, dubstep was made for moody bud heads..... but the ravey snort heads are taking over!

here lies the rub. some people think atmosphere = jager bombz + chestbumping

some people think atmosphere = gabba

some people think atmosphere = a nice cup of tea + a good book

some people like cavernous bass + meditation

Doesn't really matter. You can't cater for everyones' tastes all the time.

I find most of the 'wobble/comedy/brostep/chainsaw' etc tunes get tired very easily as happened in dnb at the beginning of last decade. they're a bit like hollywood action films + energy drinks in the sense they get overkilled because they try to whack so much energy in from the outset, and therefore leave themselves nowhere to go. So you have to keep cranking the 'wobble/comedy/brostep/chainsaw' up and up and up til it just gets tired and has to go for a lie down. a bit like a small child.

anyway, i digress. enjoy your thing, whatever that might be.
:z: I think what's really going on with "jumpup" is

a) people moaning (like joe muggs said)

b) lack of melody. a lot of people discount melody as an important factor of music. for me a tune can wibble and wobble and growl as much as it wants as long as it's melodic, the production's good and it packs a tonne of bassweight. It's this lack of melody which I think people don't count in the mid range sub-genre.

I mean take a look at joker's tunes, they don't wobble, but the one thing they do have is these unbelievably catchy hooks and beautful harmonies that weave in and out of each other.
And to take a tune by a mid-low range artist- look at DZ, another artist that know how to make melodies and nice little hooks.

Melody is key for me and I think a lor of people that listen to any sort of music!

Not *toooo* much emphasis should be put on melody, otherwise we go into trance territory! Groove is just important. There's great use of melody in loads of new stuff atm, although not necessarily in the tearout sphere - perhaps because its not what that's about..

Circling is one of the best pieces of production to come out of dubstep imo
