def think the part after the breakdown needs something more to it.. hm:) but i liked it very much

frasch - dude!!!! less is more in some cases and in this case it would be

@TheHuman - Sounds really nice and I loooove the "drop it" sample and the drop it self!

@Mister Jangles - Wooow.. This is really awesome, dude. Love the bassline, never gets boring. Not for me atleast!

@Nacklewicket - Nicely done, good producing. The track itself though, is not my style. But keep it up!

Heres a tune I've been working on today. I've been trying to make a more "chillstep". I was going for a track for the smokers (not only though, lol). I know I love those calm, relaxing dubsteps when I'm under the influence!

Just a heads up, I've only been producing for about 5 months so my opinions are based more on the experience of a listener than anything else.

@Nacklewicket
I really like the bird sample at the beginning, very nice, and the song has a lot of groove to it. The drop at :55 is sick, I love the idea but I have some trouble being able to focus on what's going on in the individual tracks, maybe make your main line in that portion stick out a bit more?

@DubMikey
I dig the drums and the misc effect accompanying it, and I can see what you're going for with the bass but in my opinion you really have the oppurtunity to take it further, keep it chill but possibly make it just a tad more complex and intertwined with the beat.

@tomi
SICK beat and samples. They work really well together, I love the more realistic sounding drums over processed. I love the bass swelling pitch accompanying the background effect but at some points *to me* it seems the bass is doing too much LFO wise, making it a little hard to follow.

This is my newest work, I'm going to play it at an open mic night on campus to hopefully let people know I'm here and this is what I'm doing. There's a little too much delay (to cover the holes in the audio track when I cut it up, definitely not a friendly song to remix due to no continuous tempo) and I need to take the sidechaining off, as well on building a better rise to the drop (for lack of one). But give me whatever criticism you can because I really want this song to kick ass for my first "performance". Of course I'll appreciate any comments too!

@FluidMoShun- nice approach very original have to agree with Bass Sedation on this one. just filling in those bare spots would greatly improve it and imo it could use some more depth to the overall track. all in all very good man !

@Bass Sedation - i enjoy this...i like the change ups and all those high pitched sounds i dig man! great start!

@FRasch good idea smooth sounds. the intros samples kind throw me off i like the first part but the drop im not to sure about.

@Fbac i dig this man really airy smooth reminds me of a video game which i enjoy alot.. try to change up the drums a bit focus on the transitions other than that beautiful job

@TheHuman diggn this really great sounds...imo could use some more reverb on some of the snyths...the snyth at 1:20ish not really sure about that one. but all in all great start good approach when finished will be sick!

heres what i did to my tune i added a little more, i was told to make my intro better and my break soo here it is...i have both the before and after on my SC....will return feeback

@kidstrange - Brilliant track. I love the intro synth. Really spacey and futuristic. I really enjoy the drop and your wobble sounds are great. They sort of suggest wobblage, rather than doing it all in your face and shit. Hope that makes sense :) I'm not really a fan your your formant 'ai' wobble sound. It's too harsh to work well with your other sounds really. You could have a harsher, heavier B section and use it there, then drop back into the chilled A section you have at the moment. That could be cool. Looking forward to hearing more.

@tomi - Great drums. I like the shuffley snare beat. Your wobbles could be a little more promenant and less reverby. They just sound really far away at the moment. Try more pre-delay and less decay time in your reverb unit. You could definitely do with some more progression and variation in your track as well. Nice over all though.

@DubMikey - I really love that snare man! That's brilliant. I like the track over all, although I think it needs a lot of work. Your sub isn't really doing it for me. Is it just a simple sine wave with a heavy low pass? Perhaps try bringing it down an octave. Not too sure. Your wobbles could be a lot nicer too. I think they're a little too tinny. How many oscillators does the synth you're using have? Try a really low square wave to give it crunch, and a sine and a saw wave an octave up from the square and detuned from each other. Then mess with filters and wave shaping. That's just what I reckon might sound cool, but I could be wrong. Give it a go :)

Here's my updated WIP. I've added a B section to the heavy bass parts, some samples from Team Fortress 2 and Aliens and also messed with the end. Looking forward to hearing what you think.

@jakedubber thanks for the advice man, yeah alot of folks have the same feeling for that "ai" guy although i enjoy that. I see it as a little surprise but i can see why it would be a turn off for many people. As of now im debating on weather or not i should keep it.....as far as your tune i enjoy this piece was not expecting that drop. mixdown seems great to me im diggn all the sounds and everything going on. also im diggn "way of the samurai" as well damn good man ..keep it up man!

@DubMikey - Happy to help. Haha, glad you like it man.

@kidstrange - I do like the 'ai' formant bass as a sound, and I reckon it could work in your track, but at the moment it's just a little too quiet to be an obvious feature. Maybe try just turning it up and just have a single LFO triangle wave of it, or a saw up wave leading a drop. Saw up wave LFO on a formant bass can sound really cool :)

@DubMikey
Nice track so far, good smoking vibe indeed. I don't think you should sample the "relapsed into laughter" thing more than once. The bass could be slightly more complex, it feels like it's building up to something else at the moment. Or, if you really dragged it out -- slower but much fatter -- I could see it being a pretty sweet tune.

@tomi
Really sick beat, and the wobble is nice, but a little too hectic compared to the backing beat IMO. Overall, killer track.

@kidstrange
Really diggin this, nice chill vibe. love the break, good voice samples. The resonance on the main wobble is a bit high for my taste, I really prefer the darker sound you've got going at the 00:53ish bass.

My tune... Starting to take it in a different direction, for the sake of practice. Still lots to do, but I think I'm gonna leave it for a while and work on something else.

Soundcloud

I'm preferring the chill version, so I might save the big synth for a heavier tune. What do you guys think?

Also, working with a cheap pair of headphones at the moment, so let me know any glaring mistakes with levels. Right now it sounds like the whole mix should be a bit louder...?

@mattdesl - I do like what you've got. I think the build to the big synth could be a bit longer and you could switch between 4 or 5 biggish synths. I think the drums need to come up in the mix and the whole track can come up a bit too. I still reckon the snare is kind of muffled, and now the kick's getting drowned out frequency-wise with the new synth. Both sounds (kick and snare) could do with a little distortion and a wide midrange bandpass. I like where I see this track going man, good work :)

@mattdesl - First off, thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! For your track: I really love that drop you made and the track overall is really nice, to be honest. I'd definitely suggest that you go on and finish it, but that's up to you! ;-)

So I have definitely improved my track. But I am kinda seeking some ideas and/or advises on how to improve even more.

@Nacklewicket
Nice vibe you got there, i like those sounds from 0:50 reminds me somehow of the NES games ,lawl :P Great tune man !!
@Mister Jangles
Nasty wobbles , work some more on the percussion , i can barely hear them , overall great ideas :)
@jakedubber
i think the snare could use a little bit reverb , and those wobbles are very loud , that's all i can say .
@mattdesl
i would get high to this tune man , really nice :D , eq your snare and add some reverb to it , besides this i think the tune is awesome :D

Well , this is something different !! I tried matching dubstep with some metal , what do you think guys ? :D

Thanks for the encouragement, sometimes it gets tiring hearing the same tune over and over. :lol:

@jake - in terms of switching synths, do you mean skrillex-style quick switch ups? Thanks for the feedback. :)

@Cyberex - thanks dude, eventually I hope to add a few more quirks and effects for the blazed listener :lol:

@dubmikey - Thanks man. Your edited version sounds good. Nice use of scattered and eccentric sound effects.
Not such a fan of the chord/piano/whatever hit (2:14 and elsewhere), throws off the vibe. If it were me, I'd try a bit of reverb on some of those SFX to give them a slightly distant feel... And the main bass just feels off-beat, I realize you might have been trying to do that but the second 'whoosh' in your main bass synth comes in a bit too late. Could just be me, though, I need to nod to a track to like it. :P

@jakedubber - Also, since I'm a newb... For distortion on percussion on ableton, do you generally use the overdrive plugin?
