Yea but the Oberyn stuff is hyped up in the show/ He's bi in the books just kind of fucks whatever, they never had him overly gay like his intro in the show though.

Swear down it was only a couple of people making snide jokes about Renly in the books, mostly that he was more concerned with living the high life.

Don't remember much about Oberyn's sexuality at all in the books either tbf, might just be me not remembering though.

Indeed they were, funnily enough the name "The White Walkers" is one of those changes made by the show, in the book they are just known as "The Others".
This last episode like suggested by that AV Club article is kind of a Butterfly Effect the changes the show have made coming into a whole new story line not in the books (The Bran and crew getting captured at Craster's Keep).
Also a couple other big deviance from the novels was having Jaime pretty much rape Cersei (in the books it was an actual love scene and added to making Jaime a more damaged and likable character) and having Tyrion outright deny killing Joffrey to Jaime (though this may change in a future episode).
They've seem to make the Tyrion/Jaime brother bond a bit more strong in the books, but in the books

Tyrion tells Jaime just as he helps him escape after killing Tywin and Shae that he did kill Joffrey just to hurt him for not helping him before this as a kind of fuck you to him for allowing Cersei and Tywin to pretty much have him on the deathblock while Jaime sat idly by.

While I understand a lot of the changes made in the show compared to the books for pacing and all the backstory/lore etc, it reminds me a bit of The Walking Dead, but in the case of that Kirkman (the comic's creator) said he wanted to change it up so not so many spoilers for non comic readers and to tell a different story.
What worries me is the show is supposed to keep pretty damn true to the books, with Martin even telling the producers/writers how he plans for it all to end if he dies before finishing it. (likely from eating himself to death see pic below) and they seem to be going their own direction with some of these new characters and changes.



On the plus side it may mean they change the spoiler so many got pissed about that i posted (sorry was really drunk and so sick of "OMG don't spoil GoT, haven't watched latest episode yet I'm right back on social media that is essentially a watercooler about TV shows half the time" posts on facebook and such), especially with the way the Tyrion/Shae relationship has been going...

I'm still missing some of the characters as mentioned in that AV Club article Strong Belwas is missed.

I'm also wondering when they are going to introduce Coldhands now with the change in Bran's story

Jon and Ygritte ending up in the same battle and her dying in his arms having such an impact

I dunno this last episode just kind of fucked everything up for the book readers as it's completely new and I don't see how it's going to get back to the original story timeline as it stands.
I understood combining characters, adding some new or changing the roles of others (Tywin at Harrenhal having Arya as his cupbearer instead of the whole Jaqen manipulation to it being Roose Bolton, which imo would have been cooler, but Tywin and Arya together was awesome), and changing some event timelines and numbers for TV pacing, but these new stories and recent rewrites this season like I said remind me of The Walking Dead, just so people who read the comics(books in this case) don't spoil it for others.

Edit: Oh yeah and the assholes turned the toughest wildling warriors from beyond the wall who were the most civilized into cannibals, that kinda pissed me off.
