That was the cause of my response to be fair, it implies a remarkably strange and distasteful view of women as something less than men (or at least the poster himself).

I didn't generalize at all, i just said i don't personally like it and i've watched it affect my mates more than any other drug, thats a personal observation. Also, I never said i "dislike people that smoke weed", where did you conjure that from? i said it affected my mates... MATES, i actually LIKE my mates believe it or not

. You may not, but thats prolly cos your paranoid and such
haha!! dont patronise me you bastard! i can't comment on your mates, but the worst i've seen weed do to anyone i know is make them lazy or go buy a kebab. there is nothing more relaxing than smoking a reefer after a busy day.

I've seen a mate lock himself in his bedroom for a week because he thought we were going to stone him to death because he was Jesus. I saw a friend of an ex who'd been committed because she thought she was a horse. I also know two other guys who constantly hear voices in their heads and are on medication. Oh and an old flatmate of mine had a nervous breakdown after she became totally paranoid and attempted to kill her father with a carving knife.
I'm not saying that these folk were going to be the sanest people on the planet, but they all developed these conditions from smoking serious amounts of weed.
Oh, I also know an enormous amount of total wastemen who do naff all but play games and smoke weed.
Along with them I know a load of people who're perfectly sane, have good careers and interesting lives AND smoke weed.
Weed does good and bad things, people who demonise it are as wrong as those who deify it.

man, that is ridiculous. i really don't see weed causing these people's psychoses. if anything weed related, it was the chemical fertilizers used to grow the weed they smoked.
í've worked in/managed coffeeshops in amsterdam for the last 4 years and have never had anyone develop extreme paranoia/hallucinations that wasn't on mushrooms / narcotics / amphetemines. that goes for tourists as well as bar regulars, friends, and associates. organic marijuana will not cause any extreme reaction (save maybe passing out from low blood sugar levels) by itself. i would imagine smoking weed doesn't help people with mental disorders/emotional problems in terms of helping relieve their condition, but i am certain it could not be the root cause, nor the "last straw", of the their conditions.

Edit - That's pretty much what I was saying though, all of those people said that smoking weed was what pushed them over the edge. I didn't say that weed was the root cause.

I think it's the quantity involved too. I've known some people to get through a quarter PER DAY, and although it might not be permanent it's certainly messing with their heads and wallets.
I wouldn't even contemplate drinking 20 pints daily which to my mind this is the equivalent of.

I think kids in London who say they're bored and have nothing to do should be forced to go and live in places like Scunthorpe.

Would have thought they're bored because they can't afford to do anything. The place is a money pit. Was thinking of moving there ages ago and then thought how depressing it would be to be surrounded by plenty of things to do but not being able to go.
If they're bored and have money they should be shot in the head for being tedious, spoiled, unimaginative bastards though.
Coming from a shit coastal town, I totally agree - people don't know how lucky they've got it until they see the "what's on in Bognor Regis" section of the local rag.

i think people get bored because they have no passionate interest in anything
and on the drug tip, what grand was sayin about people not knowing what they're taking, bro, nobody knows what they're ingesting, and i'm not even talking illegal party drugs. people take pills from the pharmacy, food from McDonalds, drink milk - man there's so much unknown random shit shoved into everything, why would people who don't care about what they eat to live, care about what they take to get high. As long as they feel full...
and about weed putting your friends over the edge bro, i really believe it was them not confronting the situation and using weed to forget/get through the things that created the problems for them. of course, like i said in my earlier post, if they were smoking hydro buds, from lame growers who didn't flush out the chemicals and used some weird shit, then the manmade chemicals that would still reside in the weed would have some fucked up effects. i think if you replace the weed with another intoxicant you still get the same effects, and probably would also had they ran away from home, joined a cult, or started playing world of warcraft all day.

I have no passionate interest in anything yet I'm rarely bored.
Actually I'm often bored, you might be right there.
Mind you there is very little that inspires these days, feeling very jaded and cynical about most things at the moment

even with no cash theres so much to do in london, all of the time. every single weekend there are free raves / parties / gigs / events all over the city, and all it costs is transport (which is usually 2 bus journeys (£2) to most places if you live relatively central)
not to mention that you can just walk around (most places) in london and its amazing
but i am new to it, and i suspect for one brought up here it might be a different story, overexposure and all that. and if you live too far out its long
re the 'ruining' thing, in a way though the phrasing implies that the female is that which is to be ruined, i.e. perfection until tainted by the dirty touch of the male? still echoing a pretty outdated idea of gender, but perhaps not so oppressive?
although you could still see it as pretty violent language to describe it

I do think there's a psychedelic quality to boredom where the mind sort of starts feeding back on itself and starts making tedious situations operate on altogether improved level. I do quite enjoy the random banter here it has to be said.
Think it's just on a daily basis a lot of what seems to get presented as the hot new thing leaves me wondering how the fuck anyone could be excited about it and makes me wonder if I'm the same species as the other folks. Mind you most people I know feel pretty similar but they're just less vocal about it.

a) have no money to make the trip into the center where there are free attractions as transport costs in London are now so prohibitive
b) have no inclination to go to these free attractions as they would require you to have quite a lot of initiative to actually find out about them and have an interest - a lot of these kids are in such bad situations that this is largely an unreasonable expectation. Part of the problem is encouraging them to look beyond their immediate environment which is usually pretty bleak. There are obviously exceptions though.
you've misunderstood what im saying. i suppose i wrote what i did in a context which would imply what you interpreted, so fair enough! but i didnt mean to say that no-one has an excuse not to be happy or active, but rather just that as a matter of fact, activities are out there. but in the broader social question that perhaps is not so important, as you fairly point out.
as an aside, is it not also the case that public transport is cheaper now with oyster than it has been for quite a while?
