fully agree.

people seem to put him (and biggie) on a fucking pedestal.... no idea why, they were both average.

The one with Trim would be a lot better if it didn't have the shitty sounding pitched vocals in it.
exactly. imo Trim's strength is in his voice and delivery, so why go in the complete opposite direction?

I thought it was awesome, because it brought a new, more instrumental dimension to his voice

So true. Sweet, west-coast, you have NWA. They're good, but they're also overrated as fuck imo. Shoot me.

Took me a while to get into it, but I bought it the other day after giving it a few listens. Really good tunes imo.

Biggie was a way above average MC, but a below average songwriter.

Tupac was an average MC and an absolutely brilliant songwriter. If the centrepoint of rap, or indeed any lyricism, is to communicate stories and emotions, then it's really tough to better 2Pac within 90s Hip Hop. I largely ignored him at the time, especially after his death and everyone in my year suddenly became a fan... but the older I get, the more I listen to him. He's actually a massive loss... nothing worth getting too upset about (it's only music), but yeah... things might be different.

The Weezy comparison from Rayman is unfair on both of them... but it particularly seems to ignore the fact that [debuting] with tracks like Brenda Had A Baby and Violent, 2Pac actually became a relevant voice commenting a community that needed someone to pick up a megaphone and shout at society... Lil Wayne is a party rapper that likes to admit he cries or falls for a stripper once in a while, it's not nearly the same pursuit... their careers crossover a bit on the gangsta-party stuff that Tupace moved more and more towards as his career went on, but that's really where the similarity ends.

You are appreciated.

S'what i'm sayin, yo!!

"This is for the masses, the lower classes
The ones you left out, jobs were givin', better livin'
But we were kept out
Made to feel inferior, but we're superior
Break the chains in our brains that made us fear yah
Pledge allegiance to a flag that neglects us
Honour a man that who refuses to respect us
Emancipation, proclamation, Please!
Lincoln just said that to save the nation
These are lies that we all accepted
Say no to drugs but the government’s kept it
Running through our community, killing the unity
The war on drugs is a war on you and me
And yet they say this is the Home of The Free
But if you ask me it's all about hypocrisy
The constitution, Yo, it don't apply to me
And Lady Liberty still the bitch lied to me
Steady strong nobody's gonna like what I pumpin'
But it's wrong to keeping someone from learning something
So get up, it's time to start nation building
I'm fed up, we gotta start teaching children
That they can be all that they want to be
There's much more to life than just poverty"

sex is overrated.

now i'm not saying it isn't enjoyable...

Just that popular culture blows it out of proportion.

looooooooooooooooooooooooool this is the weakest statement of all time. the east has been going downhill since the mid 90's, and 100% fell off after 2004.

with regards to the biggie vs pac debate....biggie had a voice, pac was a good actor turned rapper who made us think he was a g. its almost like rick ross vs drake today ;-)

if I list the best hip hop I 've heard more if it is east coast than west coast though.

my list of great hip hop albums would probably be 2:1 or 3:1 in favor of the west coast.

and i grew up on the east coast/heard hip hop my whole life brah. i'm not saying its not good, its just been very overrated since...well, biggie died.

There's no pattern to the quality of East Coast/West Coast music. If you can pick a side, you're not listening to enough hiphop.... and if you are trying to pick a coast, you're paying criminally little attention to the South, MidWest and UK.

Utterly irrelevant. I can't believe people are still talking about a 1994 Death Row marketing campaign in 2012.
