you're a big fan of skeptical right? do you not think some of his music, especially the 140 bits on tempa and exit, are pretty repetitive? or is it like 'good repetitive'?jrkhnds wrote:a repetitive tune is (most likely) boring. I can't name one tune without any kind of progression I like, yet most electronic tunes I love strongly build on repetition. it's all about what elements you chose to repeat, in what order etc. think Basic Channel's arrangements. they constantly evolve, shift elements from front to back, apply effects and reduce them again etc.

Nah, I getcha bro, we probs just have different definitions of repetitive. Good job you mentioned Basic Channel. Think Phylyps Trak II/II, as you said, you probably think "they constantly evolve, shift elements from front to back, apply effects and reduce them again", whereas to me, it's still pretty repetitive, but it's one of the best tunes ever IMO. If you got something that sounds trill, then ride it hard I reckon, just loop that shit over and over, it's dance music.

Re: Most underrated tunes
if any track suits this thread, it would be this one... genius putting the snare on beat 4, makes it feel like a jungle tune

kalawanji 2 is fucking beastjrkhnds wrote:Kalawanji to me seems very uninspired. considering other '05/'06 tunes, Kalawanji has aged very poorly. there are a lot of tunes in a similar vein that are older, yet either sound better by today's standard (RWTP arguably features the heaviest sub in a dubstep record to date, with very basic FL leads on top that somehow manage to not sound shit, plus there's the progression throughout the tune keeping it interesting) or, still within the dubstep mainframe, are more creative, bold or forwardthinking (some old Tectonic comes to mind). I can appreciate Kalawanji as a banger from the past, but hearing it out doesn't do anything for me. more filler than killer. to put it more provocatively, there are so many better "oldschool tunes" out there, why draw for a sub-par sounding repetitive halfstep wobbler?RKM wrote:kalawanjii is just a wobbler like roll with the punches is just a tune from bristol
ye yeeeeeeeeee
feels like the invasion of iraq when it drops
edit: there's nothing wrong with liking this record, I love a lot of music that I aren't forwardthinking / bold / creative or that sound worse than others from the same period of time. Kalawanji just isn't one of them.

Kalawanji is the bananas in the dance, its a weapon, its not trying to have some mad progression its designed to just go off. One of the best straight to the point bangers about. Only tunes that nearly get that too are older Coki & maybe Cluekid - Hovercraft. altho something about the mixdown on Kalawnji is ruffer yet warmer than any of them tunes
There's a reason its one of the tunes i've seen wheeled 2/3 times + noone bats an eyelid
