I think people get unnecessarily butthurt over kanye west

i don't see why he's a significant person at all. like why does anyone talk about him period? any more than ludacris or any other pop-rapper for instance

Because Ludacris is a bit of a joke really ain't he. Kanye is one of those rare artists that is both critically and commercially successful. Popular press can talk about him for good reason. He's also pretty well known for his fashion stuff too. His albums are usually pretty different to anything else in hip hop at the time, uses a lot of producers that aren't always known for hip hop beats.

What? He's an incredibly influential (and talented imo) producer and rapper and artist in general, and he's made a lot of more or less controversial remarks... that's why.

Personally I couldn't give a shit about all the stuff he says, and I like his music, but it baffles me how you can't see why he's a big deal

But he clearly is. Just take a look at the amount of headlines he's featured in, his album sales and and critical reception. Personal opinions aside, he's quite evidently a big deal. That's all I was getting at.

I'm not going to try to change your opinion of him, if you think he's overrated that's fair. I was explaining why people talk about him and think he's significant, more so than ludacris for example. Honestly I think it should be pretty obvious why

He made a few really sick, a lot of decent and a lot of OK beats back in the day

His albums are on the whole really good

on the whole kanye west is good and without him the top tier of mainstream music would be much more boring

I don't understand why people spend so much time complaining about music. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and analyze the ends that your fighting for and see how they affect you. Converting a few people to hate on an artist doesn't seem like a worthwhile activity.
