its really a toss up because usually when I pick a team to support in a sport I don't watch its based largely on who has the cooler accent and in this case its the same. However, according all the videos of Australia I've seen on youtube, it doesn't seem to differ much with the South here in murica. By that logic I'm gonna go with the Black Caps

though only got $6500 for my take home, so its a somewhat poverty Fripay

so last night i saw kool keith & it was essentially a religious experience

the opening act was this terrible white guy hip hop group w/ pretty good dj (some guy i heard on the way back in from a cig break said they were like "jedi mind tricks from pittsburgh" which was pretty accutrate all be it in a very negative connotation)

then there was another opener that ive seen before these 2 dudes 1 w/ a laptop & 1 w/ a turntable who fuck around w/ breaks loops & scratch & shit, & they had a guy w/ a guitar & like a synth pedal play some like herbie hancock shit it was alright

so before keith comes on his dj plays the intro to doctor octogon about the horse in the hospital so everyones hype & he gets on stage & plays blue flowers immediately, he then will rattle between 10 or so just choruses, so it was like a greatest hits sequence followed by a full song like sex style or w/e or girl let me touch you there. but as hes doing these choruses, theyre one after the other, no bars between lyrics, he somehow memorized the order & was just kicking off chorus after chorus w/ no time to recognize the beat, just slayed it everytime

anyways he does this for 45 minutes & its getting a touch wack b/c you realize hes rapping w/ the full vocal tune & not the instrumental until he just starts freestyling on random tracks, & he tells the dj to keep feeding him beats (dj was a bit sloppy & couldnt get a track up quick enough many times) so his set transforms into this off the dome freestyle/stand up comedy routine where he tells the dj to cut the beat, & freestyles w/ no beat for up to like 15 minutes covering such topics as "ass cracks" "17 foot wide vaginas" & shooting basketballs from his penis like he's kobe

anyways he starts like his 3rd cypher w/ "i need to get out of here" & hes about to leave when some dude in the crowd yells "spin the record" so hes like OH & tells his dj to find the hardest beat he has, so the dj is being a fucking nerd & looking for beat for too long when the guitar guy from earlier & a guy w/ a little drum set on stage run up there & start playing the guitar so keith starts like "oh shit he got the guitar" & the 2 djs from earlier jump back up & start scratching

so keith turns into like a band leader & hes calling out the drummer & the guitar dude for solos n shit & at 1 point grabbed the guitar & started trying to play it

was absolutely insane

that sounds like it makes a nice change from rappers just singing over their backing tracks

yea & somehow b/c pittsburgh is full of terrible promoters rakim w/ dead prez opening were playing at the same time in a different part of the city

so all the while the shit opener was playing we were just like "fuck we could be seeing dead prez" (not that dead prez is amazing but was better than that shit) but so glad i went to kool keith in the end b/c that dude is insane

i <3 kool keith he's unhinged, that spankmaster albums so stripped back and his lyrics on it are just so out there, all that shit about 'I told James Brown stop smokin angel dust and the pis-tal

he spent some time in bellevue mental hospital apparently which explains it a bit

its a shame professor griff was so anti semetic

oh yeah, last friday the party

just got all the decks and records back, was a bit worried they might be a bit fucked/stolen cos someone had stolen a bunch of cash that night but it's all there

played well over an hour to an empty room then kahn, hi5 ghost, boofy and some other young echo dudes showed up and the room got rammed, by far best set yet, was dropping loads of grime and the bandulu guys kept wheeling our tunes felt pretty good

was shook af though, hands trembling like mad but managed to get through it
then went and got through like ten beers and some drugs i found on the floor and stumbled out the door well past dawn
