I always find it funny when you hate a phrase/word and then you start using it in an ironic sense and then it turns into second nature.
I used to hate saying "cray cray"... then I ended up saying it coz I was always imitating 16 yo girls who sneak into clubs etc.

I hate the phrase "Improve your lot in life"

It's often used as snide and condescending way to deride impoverished people, quite often in my personal experience by conservative whites to condescend to minorities typically represented among the working poor and/or used generally by people to deride others struggling with whatever issues they have in their life. IMO it makes the false assumption that:

1. You're not trying your best.
2. There aren't any circumstances out of your control.
