I thought Ninja Gaiden was piss once I got in to it, eventually earned that giant oar thing and merked my way through bosses. Fuck it on hard mode though, I didn't even dare try.
Die Hard with a vengeance on ps1 fucked me off. Couldn't survive longer than about 30 seconds.

Also, there's a similar one with a bus, where you drive for hours, in a totally straight line, in a featureless landscape, for 1 point.

Alex kidd was hard but such a sick game.
I tried to get into Fallout 3 just after completing Fable 2 but found not being able to kill everyone straight away really frustrating so I sold it..
Been recently just playing with the megadrive emulator on my phone, save states make completing games so much easier

Ikaruga is stupidly hard. I've never completed it, and it haunts me to this day

Picross DS does my nut as well, but I love it :U:

Double Dragon III is kind of a bitch. It provides some real good multiplayer ass whoopin, but it can be frustratingly hard at times. I've been playing it for at least 12 years without finishing it.

I started playing it actievly again together with a friend about four years ago, and to this day we haven't come any further than to the last (or maybe second to last) stage. It also contains some harsh bugs related to stairs and falling outside the picture, resulting in immediate death  This is a bit in to the game though, they probably never thought that any snotty kid would be able to get that far anyway.

Quality artwork though

+1
Never even got that far  If you take a break from playing ninja gaiden and you're some stages into the game, it's almost impossible to get back on it.

I remember finding Project Rub on DS pretty hard.
But games where you can't save are so much harder than games where you can.

Majora's mask was quite tricky too.

probably the hardest game I ever played was the original Ghosts n Goblins for the NES. I remember actually getting to the last level, finding out you need to find some bullshit shield to kill the end boss, and if you dont it starts you all the way back to level 4. Then after getting to the last boss, you beat him and it says it was all a fucking dream and you have to start from level 1 all over again and beat it!!!!! And the levels are insanely hard!

So I looked into it on youtube, and actually there were people who beat it, and the ending has a spelling out of "congradulation you have won happy end" which is grammatically wrong, it is crazy. That game would make you tear your eyes out.

Although actually I think the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy text based adventure (written by Douglas Adams and the people who did Zork) may genuinely be close to being the hardest game ever...
