Just as an afterthought, some labels have a certain sound no matter who is producing on it. Metalheadz for instance, doesn't matter who releases on Metalheadz, it has that distinct sound. Anyone else notice that?
most definitely. Ninja Tune is like that for me even though the sounds vary a lot.

Seriously though, why is eeryone acting like these two are the filthy standard? Thier way harder out thier, with, quite frankly, alot more variation... How many of you ruffnekas have heard Dayn and Dalas work? Thats some filth, n Ive never either of them rank out a tune that was the same as the last. how bout new nin6? That shits some filth standard right there.
Honestly, I always looked at Datisk and Excision as kinda the standarrd at which to hold Rottun Records... not te standard to hold all the filth.
BTW I =/= Biased either way here, I start filthy n go deeper.

I now have to explain what sort of Dubstep I make...
Typical conversation -
Prospect customer:
What sort of music do you make?
Me:
Dubstep.
Prospect customer:
Sick bruv, I love that filthy shit wop wop wop wlaaarrrr. Datsik is amazing.
Me:
Nah, I don't really make that sort of Dubstep mate... I tend to take influence from more soulful dance tracks like 2 step garage, house and trance, stuff like that.
Prospect customer:
Oh, you should make filthy stuff mate.
It's become quite hard to target my music to a 'Dubstep' audience now because they all expect everything to be this heavy, messy, 'filthy' stuff...

I was just gonna say that! It's something I've always been amazed at - the depth and variation of sound you can get from the same 3 instruments.
I was gonna use that avatar too. Bit scared now.

Its wavesahping and formant filtering, sometimes a little bit of bitcrush more 'yoy' lol, but, its too taste...
Cyanide 2 (waveshape vst) has a preset called 'Bark Doggie'... but dont be a cock, learn to make your own shapes and set your own filters...
BTW, Sine + a little bit of detuned square coming out of your synth into those.

If you went to see Dasik and Excision you would expect to hear a certain sound, it's what the people want. Cant blame them for giving the people what they want. But it is also cool how Datsik was talking about doing something different, cant wait to hear it.

One way to think of it is to think of the fans.
You never really know who is going to latch on to a song or draw inspiration from it. For example, Kode 9 recycles some stuff from one song to another but his work as a whole is important to me. Maybe the musical ideas he was pushing were important enough to say twice, and maybe I am dumb enough that he needed to say it twice before I got it.
Datsik, if you are still feeling it, then I don't care if you keep on making filth forever. Maybe there is something to it that I have not discovered yet.

Im obviusly missing somthing here bukz.
haha.
Datsiks sound is great, infact his sound is individual. Nobody else has wobbles like his.
Excisions sound may be similar beacuse hes friends with datsik, but i like what there doing anyway!!!
Why is typing such an effort these days?!?

okay, excision is my fav producer... there i said it
however.. it makes my heart warm to read this thread and know that not everyone considers him+datsik to be the "be all and end all" of dubstep, which is what the scene was drifting towards... i love that im not the only one that can see past them...
super talented, but if their sound isnt rinsed now it will be, soon. wouldnt be surprised if this native instruments "massive threat" coming out has presets called "Darksik" or "Extirpation" or something
oh, and @bukez.... im not tryin to be a troll, but wtf? haha
