Haha - Just remembered that the "It Began In Africa..." sample is the main line from a Chemical Brothers song.

Actually it was MY idea. HAACK thought it was a good idea and he decided to do it. (dsf19 thread seems to be gone where those posts were.)

and shit. I missed the deadline. Way to much shit this week. But I enjoyed the samples! :W:

Edit: just listened to all:

I think Afreca and Spray of Leaves are some serious quality. Nice tracks all around.

The Rules

Theres four people who should not be in this competiton because they have not followed the rules, as the tracks limits are too long, although i feel it would be a waste to take homeland secruity out. i persoanlly believe because no one has noticed this so far, i feel we should only keep them in if the late entrys are posted, so they can join the competition too as the rules have been already been bended. especially considering the matter of time.

for those who dont know here are the rules

DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-20

*CREATE A TRACK WITH ONLY THE SAMPLES PROVIDED
*USE ANY EFFECTS OR SOUND PROCESSING TO YOUR ADVANTAGE (CUT/SLICE/EDIT ETC.)
*TRACK DURATION MUST BE NO MORE THAN 3 MINUTES FOR SUBMISSION
*WHEN FINISHED, UPLOAD YOUR TRACK, THEN SEND THE TRACK TO MY INBOX VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE

VOTING IN PROGRESS FROM FEBRUARY 7TH TO 12TH

WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE 13TH

I think this is going to win

i think FORTE - Africe is going to win. but did you really make the whole ENTIRE track with just them SAMPLES? if you did then thats fucking messy...

Wooooooooooooooooooew (that noise is sick) the drill kinda noise
and that Vox Throaty kinda noise. did you use the Vocoder on 1 of the samples?????

i aint bothered but you could argue its not fair. i had to alter the ending of my tune. as it would not it into the bars. thats why there's are over..... they have made the tune on beat. and fort ill just render it cos its all on time. and didnt check about the 3min mark other wise they would think oh shit its over the time limit i cant finish the tune properly now.. so i will have to change the endind cos thats what happend to me. obviously you dont make tunes thats why you dont know.

A lot of stuff needs to be cleaned up in these competitions, big up to HAACK for running it but there are obviously some ****** that need ironing out.

The time limit thing - it's always been an unwritten rule that going over won't be penalised but then in that case why not just make the time limit 3:30?

Deciding the winner should still be a public vote I think, instead of this mysterious hidden voting panel... All that's needed is a caveat in the rule asking people not to canvass their track to those who haven't listened to all the entries. I trust people to play fair

That said there's some big submissions here, good work guys :)

Problem is, last time people didn't play fair.

I say we give this a bash, then if everyone (or the majority) agree with the winner being the... well, winner.. then it'll have gone smoothly :e:
If not we could revert back. Or we could do a combination or the two:

1 step: Public vote
2 step: The x number of track with the most votes goes to the "judges" and then the winner is chosen from those.

That could just be too complicated though. But yea, we'll see how it goes and I'm sure we'll settle for something

how about everyone download the sample pack.

Make your track.

Then upload it to digital-tunes.

the track that sells the most wins!

:W:

edit: just remembered that people are greedy and think everything should be for free.

stupid me

haha, or some really rich dude with low self esteems buys his own track a hundred times.

i do think it might be reasonable to re-post an announcement of competition entries into the general forum. it might diversify the voting pool - if a voting system is to be utilized again.

Heh. Understatement for sure. Go ahead and go back to DSF10 and back even before that - there's been debate forever about how this thing should/shouldn't be run and although we've collectively displayed some initiative and are trying out this new format doesn't mean there isn't room for further improvement. I still like the idea of a "tune playoff" format; some folks don't, and that's fine too. I think there's room for more than one competition too though - there's absolutely nothing stopping any of you from coming up with something different and starting a new thing here.

re: "mysterious hidden voting panel" - we're not hidden. The judges' names are known, and I'm gonna post up some notes on the tunes like I always do. Nobody's bribing me (although I'm not saying I'm above that...) ;) Ultimately though this thing belongs to all of us; if for some reason the judging panel idea winds up not working out and we go back to straight voting, that's fine too. I'm wondering if having more stability in the voting body isn't a good thing though - after all, there are cats who used to be regulars in these things who're no longer contributing to these contests, and there are lots and lots of people who got into the contests later on in the double digits. At least having a fixed panel means nobody can PM all their friends here to say "oi, vote fer me choon over inna Production forum!"

re: time limit - The three minute mark was set up because people would make a 6 minute track and 3 fuckin' minutes of it was just ambient "whhhhhoooosshhhhh" or the same beat with no variations or some wanky shit like that - when you multiply that by, say, 12 contestants it turns into a total time waste. Three minutes should be enough for you to drop some ill sounds on the listening public and show what you got. As much as we all wanna be cool and all that stuff, if we allow for an extra 30 seconds (effectively making the time limit 3:30) then someone's gonna make a 4 minute track and so on, and we'll wind up right back where we started from.

...and I'd just like to take a second to say that I'm honored to be in such good company. I mean, how lucky are we to have Macc on the panel?! Dude's contributed A LOT to this production forum.

On that note I'm off to listen to the submissions. :t:
