1. I find it more sweeter & richer than L.A
2. I like the organic angle Fly Lo has gone
3. Its similar but different to L.A, as much as i love L.A, this feels more mature
4. For me this is a more rounded attempt at making a complete album.
i just got it and i agree with this

I am late on this but i love it! Regarding production levels to me its part of the beuty of it. That warm, fuzzy, un-clear sound is being used as sound... I am sure that Flylo and the mastering could get the mixdowns crisp as anyone if they cared so much.

I quite enjoyed this review...

I'd been waiting for it FOREVER. Got it on vinyl, was super excited.

Am I the only one who thinks that it really wasn't as good as it should be?

I mean, yeh, it's a fucking great album. Do the Astral Plane is amazing, and so are a lot of other tracks.

But tbh, I really feel it hasn't lived up to the hype. I also think that the mastering, or whatever you want to call it, wasn't as good as some of his past work. It all just sounds really messy and flat. Maybe I just had too high expectations.

I also really wanted to like this one, but I found it a bit of a chore to listen to.

lol not this again... the one thing i can think of that sounds a bit like LA is take - only mountain. but everyone is just gonna deny that anyway so who are people actually talking about when they say this? links or names pls
+1.

But I think Only Mountain has too much in common with some of Take's older work to say it's really similar to LA, it's just mixed and mastered a bit more like LA.
agree with saphyre and gusto here.

i gotta bring these particular posts back up. of course it's only online that i ever read this "people are copying flylo" opinion. i believe it's mostly blogger/journalist bullshit that people have internalized as their own opinion.

since there are so many people copying him can anyone list 15-20 producers who sound like him? should be fairly easy to list them if people are in fact jacking his style.

personally i doubt people can do it. but if it's actually true, list names.
:)

The man himself has said in a few interviews that he feels there are people copying his style since LA. But he did have a thing on his myspace asking people to send him their music, so that probably skewed his outlook on what most bedroom producers are doing.

I think though that Cosmogramma is what it is not because he was changing it up as a reaction to biters. But because he was dealing with the deaths of his mom and aunt, it's not a coincidence that Cosmogramma has a lot of connections to his roots what with Ravi, the Alice Coltrane samples and Rebekkah Raff on nearly every track.

i like this a bunch, not sure if i looove it yet.. time will tell..

but regarding the sonic quality mentioned earlier....

it sounds good on a small home listening system, out my monitors or boombox it sounds good, the textures, space and whatnot, but on a big rig it sounds flat...

he played on a fantastic sounding Funktion one rig a few weeks ago here in cali, it really sounded dull.....he wansn't pushing red, it just didnt translate well loud...

all the low end sounded straight up muddy...

whereas some other acts on that rig you could hear all the smallest details in sound..

tho i dont think it really was made for big soundsystems....

... Well, Fly Lo has biters. Is he a bit ridiculous? Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely. But that said, I recently saw live footage of someone and I was like "... Holy shit, he's not just a self-deluded fool."

this one is brilliant though :cornlol:
speed down heavy jazz indeed
