Exactly. To me, Cyrus is deep. Mt. Eden isn't...... but then I daresay I might be outvoted on that these days. (Not around here, obviously

Mark me on that knowing truth bandwagon...
But seriously I always took 'deep' to mean something about the artists mindset when writing a tune, its emotive ability, ect. Not something to dow ith reverb. This is why Mt. Eden isnt deep and Cyrus is... Cyrus paints me pictures and tells me how he feels sometimes, Mt. Eden tells me fuk shit aside from 'I made a neat-o bass patch, look at my samples!'

I dont know, I guess I am more of a dark producer. I prefer dark soundscapes and ambient washes with sparse melodies trickling through out...

Deep = emotive, containing soul... what you are describing is the outcome of that, detailed and encapsulating...
artists put thier soul into the presentation of thier emotions banking on someone else getting it. from the visual to the musical to the performance thats the idea.
deep is soul.
soul seperates an artist and producer, from the non. IDC what you write, from aggro to dark pure sub stuff to wierd electro 4x inspired stuff, to those who just cant be described, all accross the spectrum... idc... gotta have a soul. and dont kid yourself, you know when something doesnt.

Its quite true - I mean, though my tracks ain't released loads or on wax, being played by every big DJ - they're very close to me, like loads of little children!
I often ask myself when writing tracks.. "Why am I doing that? - Am I just doing it because it sounds good or does it actually bring my initial ideas and inspiration more clear, is this encapulating emotion or just a groovey track?" and other things, while I have no problem with writing a track what just sounds good, it just feels disposable to me and I hate our disposable society as a whole so I won't conform my music into that catagory .. Thats just my way I see it.
