What did you do? Specimen handler? I tried to break into that as I was doing my undergrad, to no avail; I didn't get anywhere in the field until I received my retainer in 2009. Which was subsequently rescinded as all hell broke loose. Apparently letters of recommendation, honors letter, training at prestigious Nobel laureate research institutes and vouches from PhD's were for naught. I had offers for (his) post-doc research by a professor in biochem, I had to turn it down as I was carrying 15 units that semester and I didn't feel like disappointing or slowing down the pace. Fuck academia.

Don't drink the water in India or you will be pissing shit from your anus according to someone who just got back from seeing his family.
Been there, done that.
You've not lived until you've accidentally shat green liquid all down your white cotton trousers on the back of a cycle rickshaw in Bombay.

no academic reasons i passed the year.
for some reason i decided all my uni choices on deadline day without reading the book and just picked the best 5 for my course which also happened to be the 5 most boring/strict.
got a police caution for the most minor offence ever and they showed me the door. nice one.

Yea those are the good days, breakfast at the cafe in the morning, pub at lunchtime. But when its pissing with rain and shit needs to get done, you dont get such luxuries!
Alot of our work is fixing stuff that has been bodged in the first place. Often BUT NOT ALWAYS by eastern european tradesmen.
This is what the customers/guvnor tell me anyway.

Then again I suppose given the odds that the fellas on any given site will be Polish that's to be expected.
I used to work on a site but it was keeping up with the paper trail as opposed to working with my hands.
Now I'm out of work and studying again, doing something with very little societal value. I do love it though.

Was it you that was doing the psychology degree?
I'm the Technical Accounts Manager for an inkjet company. I go around looking for research and development contracts, look after customer interests, help direct some of the research work, do general troubleshooting amongst other things.
Yep, it was me.

It's well planned for...
I'm 25 now so I've only just become eligible for (the majority of) counselling courses in my local area.
Have a few contacts in the NHS too so once i'm in my course, I'll try and hook up a good apprenticeship
so it's not totally impossible either. I know it's ridiculously hard to get into - but without sounding
too corny or shit, I actually just want to help people.
