Dubstep producers, as well as passionate listeners and followers of
real dubstep, shouldn't talk about House music or any of its sub genres.
It's just embarrassing
Electronic music is so backwards nowadays, since when did popularity deem you as a bad artist? You have no clue of Deadmau5's and Skrillex's motives for making music. The amount of free shit and tutorials Deadmau5 gives doesn't seem like he's all about the money to me. If he was, he'd spend less time making status' on facebook and actually making shit. Skrillex too, that guy went through his whole life around and learning about music, which is more than a lot of you can say. Plus, he only went into Electronic music after his voice fucked up, just showing that he loved the music scene way before he got a taste of how much he could make from House music. When he lost his laptop containing all his new WIP and when they started getting leaked and stolen, do you know what he said? lol k, I'll just make some more. He honestly doesn't care how much money he makes from his work: he dresses like shit, and doesn't have a lot of gear. What does he do with his money? No clue.
It just seems weird that people would bash on such talent (yes, they have talent. Listen to Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites piano covers, and try to compose something that great) when you haven't given them a proper chance. I don't have the pleasure of being able to say "I listened to Skrillex before he was Skrillex", or "I listened to Deadmau5 when he had x amount of subscribers". House music isn't easy. Deadmau5 and Skrillex are so different: Deadmau5 is all about the melodies and progression, Skrillex is all about the sound design, which was inspired by Metal, not Dubstep. To hate them for being good at what they love to do is silly. I don't wish I could be as popular as Skrillex, but I do wish I could be as talented as he is. If you stripped down all his choppy vocals and eccentric basslines, the melodies are still fantastic. It's unreal how well designed his melodies are.
Why do people hate on D5 and Skrillex anyway? Is it because they are the only House producers that top Beatport charts and are well known? What about the other very popular House producers: Wolfgang, Zedd, Afro Jack, Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Al Bizzare, Alex Colle, Alphaverb, Chris Lake? People hate Skrillex because he does Dubstep inspired crossovers? Which I don't get how that is a bad thing as he never claimed he was a Dubstep producer, ever. Ever. Most of you would rather have Dubstep remain as this dark and mysterious enigma, which should remain underground and deep. Well that's all well and good, but some producers would rather have Dubstep as dance music. I'd hate to have to get rid of Flux Pavillion, Doctor P, Excision, Datsik, Skrillex, and other popular producers who just want to push the bar a bit. Don't complain that the bar are being pushed and it's harder to become popular (which isn't a lot of your intentions seeing as you make music for you and only you), instead, you should see it as an opportunity to step your game and try some experimentation.
Also, Legend4ry, that is bullshit. That is not a fact. Are you saying Daft Punk, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Mozart are bad because a wide number of people enjoy their work? Because there is a large mass of people who appreciate them. No, it's experience and talent that created their mass followers.
