Absolutely smashing sample pack. I got my head straight into it and have built the bare bones of a track using less than half the samples. Thanks for this, loving the forum and all the useful advice :h:

Wasn't really inspired by the things I came up with, plus I've kinda been taking a break from production. So it's lookin like I wont be in this one.

i thought the drum hits were a bit iffy but i've rinsed the fuck out of one of the loops and am having quite a lot of fun with it. and the chords are nice. i think the result might be going on objekt #2 once it's finished... which would be the second time running that i'd have put a samplepack comp entry onto vinyl. haha. :)

Are turntables allowed? Since it's just another form of sound-manipulation..

yup!! as does using a mic & recording ya speakers.

the rule is just to use the samples provided.. but you can manipulate them as much as & how you want!

go for it!!

Realy?!?!? I always thought about bringing it up but I figured if you used a mic to record the sound the background noise the mic might pick up would make it unlegit. I'll definitely consider doing this next comp! Mic running through guitar pedals sound like an awesome idea.

Pretty sure mics aren't allowed. No recording...doesn't matter what your recording, your still creating new sound which is strictly against the competition rules. Still, if I'm wrong Haack can surely overrule me XD

On another note, I sent my entry in today :D

tis using your ingenuity, when you use any FX it changes your sound. I effect & bounce my shit to audio (resample) many times.
adding other sounds via the recording process would be a no no though.

what is the difference between using guitar rig & micing up your cab?

adding the warmth & colour to your music?

tis all subjective though ah

Well not really, because if you record new samples then your still creating new artifacts that wern't there before. Your not editing an existing audio file. Your creating a new audio file that happens to have one of the designated sounds playing through speakers in it but it will also have god knows what else in it colouring the sound. By this logic I could leave my mic on for half an hour as long as at some point I played one of the samples from the back and then that ambience I could use to create all kinds of things I wouldn't have had access to otherwise.

Seems pretty obvious to me that in a sample pack comp you can only use the samples provided..

i guess ya didn't read the part I made bold?

just like when ya mic up a guitar rig.... ya don't want any other artefacts than the colourisation & perhaps some room verb.... depending on the proximity of ya mic to the cab.

then of course ya could DI it instead, enabling ya to catch the colour of the amp.
^ tis no different to using plugins

!!chea

edit* I could also run it through my console so I can get the analogue sound & get it nice and hot without digital distortion. Oh yeah, I could also EQ & add FX in realtime.
& none of this breaks any rules!!

I really like the tune I'm building for this contest. Definitely has some of my best work yet, which is surprising cause I made it without even touching any of my purty NI VSTs :m: I even found a way to make use of the vocal sample, which I really didn't like at the beginning (the other samples are quality, tho :D: ). Should be submitted in a week.
