If you like GoT you should check out Joe Abercrombie's stuff. It's like GoT in that it is epic fantasy but not with too much daft shit like time traveling dragons.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a series of epic fantasy novels by American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. Martin began writing the series in 1991 and the first volume was published in 1996. Originally planned as a trilogy, the series now consists of four published volumes with the fifth expected to be published on July 12, 2011 and a further two planned.
Gunna start reading this shit as soon as the season ends.

Series has been proper mint so far. Got to about Ep 4 before I had to give in and start reading the books, coming up on the end of the second now....just too much. Easily the best thing I've seen on TV thus far in 2011, and don't remember much if anything better in 2010.
Don't wanna say too much and ruin it for people, how about a thread for spoilers?

I can understand the reaction! I was gutted, had to look away from the screen!
I did think it was an odd coincidence that he gets glassed outside of a bar defending the honour of a "lady" on the very same night he gets killed off in the series.
Everyone seems to be on that "exit through the gift shop" hustle nowadays.
